- Permafrost engineering

Languages: Russian and English
Paper presentation: oral and poster
Time for oral presentation: max. 15 min.
A poster session is planned during the conference.
All accepted abstracts will be included in a proceedings volume and made freely available at the Russian Scientific
Electronic Library (https://elibrary.ru) and the FYPS-2021 website.

Pre-Registration
Those interested in attending FYPS-2021 (conference and/or field workshop) are requested to fill in the pre-registration
form and send it by email to vnmf2021@mail.ru before December 15, 2020.

Conference Fee
The conference fee is paid onsite at the conference or can be done via bank transfer to the Melnikov Permafrost Institute's
account. The conference fee will be 1 000 Rubles. In case of additional funding support, the fee may be reduced or waived.

2. FIELD WORKSHOP
                                                      Cryo-Deserts-2021

                                                       Field trip route.
SIXTH FORUM FOR YOUNG PERMAFROST SCIENTISTS
The Makhatta Tukulan dune field (63°54´ N, 122°32´ E) is located on the northern side of the Vilyui River, 10 km north-
west of the town of Kysyl-Syr. It covers an area of 214 km2 and consists of parabolic dunes. Along with wind-blown sands,
the dune field contains lake, creek, tundra, steppe and forest (scattered pine stands) ecosystems. Supra- and
intrapermafrost water springs are abundant.

                                                   Makhatta Tukulan.
SIXTH FORUM FOR YOUNG PERMAFROST SCIENTISTS
The yedoma exposure (63°56´N, 122°52´E) is located 10 km north-east of Kysyl-Syr down the Vilyui River on its left
bank. The exposed part of the fluvial terrace is 65 m high and consists of Cretaceous sandstone overlain by Quaternary
alluvial (channel and floodplain facies), cryo-aeolian and yedoma deposits.

Yedoma exposure along the Vilyui River.
SIXTH FORUM FOR YOUNG PERMAFROST SCIENTISTS
The Kysyl-Syr Tukulan Dune (63°54´N, 123°16´ E) lies 25 km north-east of Kysyl-Syr, in a valley setting on the right side
of the lower Vilyui River. It has an area of 19 km2. Gemorphologically, it is a high-order dune of composite structure.
Quaternary sediments are exposed along the 3-km long and 35-m high bluff, consisting of alluvial (channel, scour and
floodplain facies) and aeolian units, a continuous paleo soil horizon, a paleo depression with buried peat, and buried trees.
Seeps of supra- and intrapermafrost groundwater are observed.

                                                    Kysyl-Syr Tukulan.

Workshop Fee
The field workshop fee is to be paid separately and is estimated to be approximately 10 000 Rubles (including meals). It
may be reduced in case of additional funding.
