YORBA LINDA COUNTRY RIDERS 3rd Quarter 2021 www.ylcr.net Hoof Beats by the Club President First bit of news is that our General Meeting is NOT the 1st Wednesday of August, it is the 2nd Wednesday, August 11th. The Community Center was busy with Sheriff night, SOOO PLEASE join us on the 11th because we have arranged for an amazing speaker, Dr Johnson of EVA. Even if you have your own vet, I always learn something new from each vet we have had as a guest. In addition, she is local, and you never know when you may need her in an emergency or perhaps you are looking for a new vet. I've heard several of our local vets are headed for retirement, so come meet Dr Johnson. It would also be nice to have a full room for her to show our appreciation of her time as well as to let her know that we/YL are still Horse Strong. THANK YOU!! Please invite all your horse friends to hear Dr Johnson – details on page 2 Next, Paxton improvements start on August 2nd. We are finally getting the long promised expansion to the small arena. We know it is a bummer to give up some arena time during the summer but hopefully it will be worth the wait. What we do know...the small arena, the parking lot and the bullpen will be closed. Only the big arena will be available, and you must enter from the north entrance. Even with this, you must ride at your own risk during the day as construction will be going on every Monday through Friday through October. We are asking that anyone taking or giving lessons limit them to one on ones during construction to be considerate of the limited space. Unfortunately, with the construction and the possibility of it running into October maybe even November, our Horse Show will have to wait for spring. We have planned some FUN stuff coming up to make up for the lack of the arena time. We will be going on a trail ride August 29th, details on page 2. We’d like to get a Casper’s camping trip on the calendar so if you’d like to go, please send in your available dates for October. Lastly, we are working on a Cow Pie Bingo for early November, this event will be our belated 50th Anniversary since Covid interrupted all our Anniversary plans. I will send the date and more details as soon as they are confirmed. I hope to see Y’all on the 11th, enjoy your summer and Happy Trails, Happy Trails, DEE DEE www.ylcr.net 3

Calvin is just grateful that Dusty is back being healthy and competitive again. On June 6th, Dusty placed as the Reserve in the Eliminator and Clean Shooter in the Battle for the Buckle series. They ended up with some cash. Calvin’s wife won her class and a trophy buckle in this 3 series competition. (lower photo) Eliminator is when you have the least total time in completing 2 of the 89 different patterns. Clean Shooter is when you have shot every target in all the stages (each pattern throughout the main match of the competition). Then on the following week, June 12th, Dusty and Calvin traveled to Castle Dale, Utah to compete in the USMS mounted shooting. (upper photo) There, Dusty and Calvin scored on some cash and a trophy buckle. www.facebook.com/YorbaLindaCountryRiders 6
YORBA LINDA COUNTRY RIDERS 3rd Quarter 2021 www.ylcr.net Tips from and for YLCR members, plus other equestrian enthusiast Whether it is an emergency or just A New Happy Home for their Horses at the Friedrich Farm a temporarily fix for the fly season, using an old pair athletic Club President Dee Dee and her husband Cowboy Pete have sock is an ideal economic solution. their new covered stalls installed for the four legged family members. Sofia Baroldi, YLCR member, 16 years old The NBHA Professional’s Choice Vegas Super Show in Las Vegas, Nevada is a large, three day barrel race held since the early 2000s. The June 2021 race had about six hundred people entered in all three days of the event. Being there is an honor in itself but what it comes down to is what leads you there. Every single one of those people pour their souls and time into their horses just to go out and have the time of there lives. And I proudly say I am one of those people. I have been riding for about 8 years now & have been barrel racing for about 3 years. The horse that I ride is my personal horse, Ike’s Hancock Remedy, more commonly known as Remi. I bought him in early 2020 and have had him on the pattern since late summer of that year. He and I have made our progression slowly but surely though the past year at the local arena working towards being able to place at a big race like Vegas. At the end of the weekend, in early June, my boy and I had won over 260 dollars, which is a great accomplishment for us. Now moving forward, we are spending our days putting in the work to be able to qualify and place at the WCBRA Barrel Racing Finals in early September and to become the best team we possibly can be. www.facebook.com/YorbaLindaCountryRiders 7
