General Information Due to popular demand, we have added a “Mass Start” regional race to the Saturday of the Albion O-Cup weekend. Before we get to the nitty gritty, here’s a few acknowledgments. Superfly Racing is excited to bring MTB racing back to Albion! After a year hiatus, participants will get to experience this great venue to test out their legs and lungs. Albion is an ideal venue with courses catering to beginners, intermediate and advanced MTB racers. Thanks to the ongoing partnership between Albion Conservation and Superfly Racing, we’re able to experience these trails once more. The Ontario Cycling Association and the event organizers are committed to creating a safe sporting environment for all participants, officials and spectators. With that in mind, it is essential that all event participants agree and understand that participating in an event during a pandemic presents certain challenges that will require the community to overcome. The current situation related to the global pandemic is very dynamic and requires us to be understanding the ongoing changes and challenges. The rules, guidance and regulations change frequently and are subject to local interpretations that may at times be in conflict with each other, we are doing our best to interpret and apply how that applies to event scenarios. What we are doing: • Detailed and flexible COVID Safety Plans • Dedicated on site COVID compliance coordinator • Additional sanitization, PPE and signage • Training for volunteers, staff and Commissaires • Applying appropriate design principles to start, finish and stage areas to encourage safe participation What are asking: • Be flexible, understanding and patient • Self check - be healthy and follow the provincial health guidelines • Keep your distance when possible • Wash your hands! • Practise safe respiratory etiquette (sneezing, coughing, spitting) • Respect mask mandatory areas • Please follow all on site expectations We look forward to seeing you there! Non-member permits will not be sold for this event. However, special for 2021 ONLY, all categories may race on an OCA Citizen permit. Special Youth Introductory Race Category Added: An additional category has been included in several of this season’s MTB OCup races for individual event sales designed to cater to beginner MTB racers 8 and 9 years of age. The MTB OCup Series pass was offered to athletes ranging from 10-99 years of age, but organizers wanted to provide an introductory race experience for youth riders beginning their journey into MTB racing by providing a stepping stone to the Pee-Wee race category. The Intro to MTB (8-9) category is being offered at OCup’s #2,3 and 4 which have courses that can cater to the recommended distance and challenge level as outlined in Cycling Canada’s adapted Long Term Athlete Development Plan. We are proud to include a race category specifically to cater to these beginner MTB racers giving them the opportunity to ride on a safe closed course tailored for beginner youth. Age category is as of December 31, 2021. Albion Mass Start Race Page 5 of 10 sean@superflyracing.com Technical Guide V 1.2 Sept 2021 Revised 2021-08-10 12:54 PM

Team Area Should teams be permitted to set up a team area, it is the sole responsibility of team leadership to create and maintain a safe space that is compliant with local regulation and expectations The following expectations should be considered a minimum: • Set tents and structures to encourage maximum air flow (at least two full open sides) • Maintain social distancing • Masks should be worn when not racing, eating, or drinking • Clean and disinfect high touch surfaces (coolers, tools etc) • Avoid sharing equipment • Maintain a log of persons that are permitted in the team area • Register for team space by emailing request to sean@superflyracing.com Course Map Albion Mass Start Race Page 7 of 10 sean@superflyracing.com Technical Guide V 1.2 Sept 2021 Revised 2021-08-10 12:54 PM
Pre-riding & Course Inspection The race is taking place at the Albion Hills Conservation Area. Please be conscientious and respectful of other trail users who are allowed access to the trails during any pre-riding. Designated pre-riding time is noted below during which time race participants will gain access to the course by having their competition number plate on their bike. Scheduled pre-rides will showcase most of the race course and give riders a good idea of it. Sometimes it isn’t possible to mark the course in its entirety, and we reserve the right to make reasonable changes to the course right up to the start of the event. Any changes we make to the course from pre-riding will not include the addition of major technical features. On occasion we must change sections of the course due to poor weather and or course conditions prior to the start of the event. In event these changes are made we will make announcements and post the changes on the information board. Pre-rides are only intended to give you an idea of the race course, as course conditions, trail width and obstacles on the trail may change. A mountain bike course is not a permanent ideal, as it evolves with weather, moisture content, number of riders, and changes that we must perform to make it safer. Often pre-rides will be preliminarily marked, with our final marking going up on event morning. In certain areas vandals, other riders, pedestrians and horseback will destroy course markings if they are left up too long. As well we are adjusting our course markings as to our race officials’ suggestions up to the evening prior the event. Please pre-ride with extra care as the race course is not fully marked and our marshals and safety crews are not on course. Treat pre-riding as just another mountain bike ride and ride within control and with maximum caution. Course inspection and pre-riding will be available on the following dates and times: Friday, September 17, 2021: 10:00am-7:00pm (plate pick up from 4-7pm) Saturday, September 18, 2021: 4:00pm-7:00pm (no plate pickup available) Fee: Included with park entry payment at gate Event Rules General Rules & Regulations • The event will be run under UCI rules with Ontario Cycling Association/Cycling Canada modifications. • The penalty scale of the OCA rulebook will be applicable. • Races will start promptly at the indicated start times. • Any rider dropping out of the race shall immediately notify a commissaire. • Protests are considered from the point of the incident up to 15-minutes after the posting of results for the related event. All protests are to be made to the chief commissaire. All determinations made by the commissaire are final. • There will be no Ontario Cup Series Points awarded for the mass start racing as this is not part of the OCup race series. Equipment Restrictions/ Regulations • Approved helmets are mandatory at all times while riding a bicycle at Albion • Per CCA rule 1.3.031 N): At all times when participating in or preparing for an event held in Canada, all licensees who are mounted on a bicycle shall wear a securely fastened helmet that meets a recognized cycling standard for the specific discipline. Riders shall provide documented proof of this, such as a manufacturer’s label, upon request by event officials. • The use of cameras (helmet mounted, mounted on the bicycle, or worn on the body) is not permitted by athletes during competition. Staging & Start Protocol • Start wave staging will need to follow Ontario Provincial Government Spacing Protocols (Currently 2m) • Riders are to report to staging 5 minutes prior to start and follow instructions for maintaining proper distancing • Category staging (order) within each start wave will be determined and announced the day of the event based on registration numbers and grouping of similar abilities Course Marking • Superfly Racing uses barricade or caution tape to close off intersections. This tape is affixed to trees, stakes and strung across pathways or along pathways to show riders where to go, or where not to go. Barricade tape can show participants where not to go, or it can be used to outline the outside (or inside) of a corner, or to keep riders out of a certain area. • Superfly Racing uses arrows on chloroplast to indicate direction on the course • At intersections we may indicate where not to go using a do not enter sign indicating the wrong way. Feed Zones and Technical Assistance • Feeding is allowed during the MTB mass start races • The feeder and recipient of the feed are encouraged to be from the same household or “bubble” so as to minimize potential transmission of COVID-19 • Feeders are asked to practice proper masking, distancing and sanitization protocols Pulling Riders • Riders may be pulled from the event if they don’t make some kind of time standard. This is something only utilized in order for the race day not to be impeded and because participants fall outside of a “reasonable” time to complete an event. i.e. less that 5% of competitors. Pulled Riders will appear in the results as having finished the race. They will be placed based on the number of laps completed and the time they were pulled. Bad Weather/Course Changes • Changes to the course may be required in case of severe weather or changing atmospheric conditions. Changes will be announced at the start of all races. In all conditions riders should ensure they are riding within their limits and dismount if the terrain exceeds their technical comfort level. • OCA Lightning Policy: http://www.ontariocycling.org/forms/lightning-policy/ Safety and First Aid Onsite First Aid will be provided by Odyssey Medical First Aid will be stationed near the start/finish area. For exact location, see Start/Finish Map Parking Parking will be located at the venue. Limited spaces will be available to bring team equipment into the designated teams area.
