TRIP OVERVIEW The wild jungles and tropical waters of Costa Rica are perfect for exploration, adventure and the spreading of its national motto: Pura Vida. The ‘simple life’ in Costa Rica has you hiking its lush jungles, rafting its wild rivers, surfing its coastlines, and immersing yourself in service and culture. For those who crave adventure of the mind heart and soul, this trip delivers the opportunity to get wild and give back.
E XPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS • Trek through lush ecosystems of a cloud forest • Surf and experience the wave-riding righteousness of the Caribbean Sea in Puerto Viejo • Volunteer with in a local community, earning service hours and a cultural experience • Take an overnight expedition rafting the Pacuare River
DAY 1 Your adventure in the tropics begins as you land in lively San Jose, Costa Rica. Meet your leaders at the airport and head into the colonial capital for your first tropical night together as a group. DAY 2-5 Embark on a multi-day trek through Costa Rica’s famous cloud forests. Get a unique perspective of the diverse wildlife and plant life on foot, exploring the world beneath the forest canopy. Along the way, you will have a chance to travel through small Costa Rican communities that will welcome you with open arms. DAY 6-8 Orient yourself to life in the lush land of volcanoes and vegetation as you spend the next few days working on your service project in the quaint village of Mollejones. Working with this local community, you’ll devote your time to projects most pressing. You may be gardening, painting structures, playing soccer with kids, or learning to cook traditional cuisine. All the while you’ll become valuable assets to the community, and learn new perspectives in life and culture. *Itinerary and order of activities subject to variation.
DAY 9-10 Travel to the Pacuare River where you’ll begin an overnight rafting expedition. This river is known all over the world for its unique rapids, and thrilling drops through dense and beautiful jungle. Navigate the class III and class IV rapids of this tropical waterway as it takes you deep into the canyons and fern gullys only accessible by river. Camp on the banks of the Pacuare, and relish in the sights and sounds nature brings. DAY 11 Travel from the volcanic jungle on a scenic ride to the coast. Arriving where the ocean meets the jungle, you’ll take a nature tour at Cahuita National Park, looking out for iguanas, toucans and butterflies that populate this diverse ecosystem. Spend the evening preparing yourself for the next few days of surfing. DAY 12-14 Get oriented to the aquatic side of Pura Vida and learn to surf. Head to the beach where you’ll spend the next two mornings in the tropical waters, learning to read waves, and catch them. The afternoons will be spent exploring the nearby National Park and Marine Reserves. Travel back to San Jose where you will celebrate a life changing experience in Costa Rica. Enjoy your last night with your group remembering and reliving the memories you’ve made at your final banquet in San Jose. Then, travel back to the US of A!
