MARINA PROMENADE ISSUE 1 2021 COMMUNITY NEWS Safety in unity: stronger together Slowly but surely, life in our city is marching back to normalcy – and it’s our responsibility to ensure we take the precautions that support our government’s tireless efforts. While you wear masks and practice social distancing, we urge you to remember the below guidelines. 1. Household staff must wear their masks properly (covering their nose and mouth) at all times in the community. 2. Gathering of staff members from different households in the common areas is not permitted. 3. Social distancing of at least 3 metres must be adhered to at all times in common areas. 4. Personal items like bicycles, shoes, and strollers should not be left outside the home. To ensure a safe environment for everyone, staff members found to be in repeated violation of these guidelines will be asked to leave the amenity.
MARINA PROMENADE ISSUE 1 2021 COMMUNITY NEWS A desk to impress! It’s probably the most common feature of waiting areas around the world, and yet the best opportunity to make a striking first impression – we’re talking about the humble reception desk! That’s why we’ve just retouched the one in your community, to restore all its glory. • The tan brown granite slabs are naturally reflective, but we buffed them up with stone wax just to add that extra lustre. • The meranti wood accents got a fresh coat of lacquer – in addition to the gleam, it also protects the wood from wear-and-tear. P.S. Did you know that your community’s concierge is always at hand if you need any assistance booking a cab, unloading your shopping or requesting a service? Just call 056 680 9332.
MARINA PROMENADE ISSUE 1 2021 COMMUNITY NEWS Rain-proofing your community We just built a number of new drain channels across your community this quarter – here’s all you need to know on its works. • With asphalt and concrete covering all the natural substrate, drains are our only line of defense against downpours. • Towers in your community are mostly covered with flat surfaces where water can pool and overflow. Drains on roofs and podium levels prevent that, channeling all the water into dedicated storm-water lines. • The run-off travels through a series of pipes to the marina’s bay, where it’s drained into the open water. • Unlike sewer lines, there’s no filtration or treatment in storm-water lines – that’s why you should never throw cigarette butts, food wrappers or other pollutants in there!
MARINA PROMENADE ISSUE 1 2021 COMMUNITY NEWS All set for the 2021 squash season! Spare a thought for the walls of your squash court – they’re pounded hundreds of times a day with rubber balls travelling at over 150 km/h! Did you know that over time, rubber deposits from the ball begin to build up on the wall, reducing bounce and consistency? That’s why we decided to repaint the courts with a new layer of paint – and it isn’t ordinary paint! • The old paint is first stripped off, while plaster is applied to cracked or chipped patches. • Once the plaster has completely dried, a primer layer is applied to the walls. This needs to be done extremely carefully to ensure there are no blisters. • Finally, a specially formulated thermoplastic paint is applied – this ensures that the ball always retains the right speed and bounce. Ready to play? Log into dubaimarina.ae to book the court.
MARINA PROMENADE ISSUE 1 2021 COMMUNITY NEWS Blankets in summer? These pipes need them! With summer months on the way, we’ve been working behind the scenes to prepare your community for the upcoming blaze – over 2,400 metres of piping in your community has been freshly insulated! • The insulation comprises two layers: a thick, foam-based inner layer helps prevent heat from entering the pipes. • The outer layer is made with a combination of paper and foil – this helps reflect heat and also provides a seal against vapour loss. • The insulation process have a massive impact on maintenance expenses, slashing costs and improving efficiency by as much as 25%! • Over time, the insulation naturally wears down – re-insulation is usually carried out every 3-6 years.

MARINA PROMENADE ISSUE 1 2021 COMMUNITY NEWS P-leash follow this rule! Your community loves pets. We understand that they’re an important member of your family. But when it comes to walking them in the community, we must insist on leashes. Let’s tell you why a leash is important: 1. Consideration – Elderly residents, young children, individuals with allergies and others might be intimidated by pets’ exploratory behaviour. 2. Safety – Startled pets may suddenly run onto roads without warning or cross paths with cyclists, which is a major safety hazard. 3. Health – Wandering pets might nibble on landscaping – but a number of plants native to the city are not friendly to pets’ tummies. 4. It is the law – Walking a dog without a leash is punishable with a fine of AED 10,000. Fines can reach AED 100,000 if the pet is involved in an attack.
