CHURCH OF SAINT ELIZABETH February 17, 2019 Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. + My dear parishioners: Thank you so much for your affirmation and support of my writing efforts. I was so surprised that we ran out of books last week. I was hoping that a second shipment would arrive before this weekend. However, I was in- formed on Monday that Oxford University Press ran out of books! They are now in their second printing. These will not be available until the beginning of March. However, in the interim, you will be able to purchase the book online through Smile.Amazon or Barnes and Noble (the exact title of the work is Catholic Bishops in the United States). I hope you enjoy reading it, and I welcome any feedback you have for me. I am most grateful to Cardinal Tobin for writing one of the commentaries. Maybe one night in the not too distant future, I will share a reflection on the book and we can discuss your thoughts. I would really enjoy that! I also want you to know that I appreciate that you took the flyer on Sharing God’s Blessing. Please make sure that when you make your donation that you indicate that you belong to St. E’s. It is a great achievement that we met our goal for 2018, and I am abso- lutely confident that we can do it again this year. The key to the increase was the number of families who supported the Annual Appeal. I sincerely thank you for all you are doing to make our parish one of the healthiest and strongest in the Archdiocese. I have even more good news to share and that is we have our final tally for the Christmas collection. We had budgeted $200,000 for 2018, and the final result was $227,200! Your fantastic spirit of giving helps us do so much work keeping up our ministries and general caring of our wonderful faith community. You can be very proud of all that you are accomplishing through your unfailing generosity! One of the areas in our weekly work here at the parish is to be on top of all our communication with you. I think it is important to know about all the interesting activities that are going on and most especially, the people who are involved. I hope you have been enjoying the weekly video updates on our website. It’s such a great way to see what your friends are doing and know about so many opportunities to join us for a wide range of events. If you do not receive my weekly email blast letting you know that a new video has been posted on the website, please contact Lisa Tota at lisa@saintelizabeths.org Hopefully, you will soon receive the latest copy of Bread to Roses in your mailboxes. I think you will really enjoy this issue. There are many photos from the Cardinal’s visit for Saint Elizabeth’s Feast Day as well as our Christmas caroling, Christmas Pageant, and our truly beautiful church for the Christmas Masses. The back cover has the entire schedule for Easter. You might want to just tack it to your home calendars for easy reference in the coming weeks. If for some reason, you do not receive your copy of our mini-mag, please don’t hesitate to let us know. Lisa Hroncich will gladly make sure we have your information in our system cor- rectly. You can reach her at lisah@saintelizabeths.org Finally, as I mentioned last weekend, in addition to the research work that I do at Georgetown, I also have the good grace to teach our fourth year seminarians at Seton Hall. In the last few weeks, Deacon Steve has eloquently shared the struggles of his journey. The priesthood is a beautiful calling that like any other vocation requires work, patience, and dedication. I ask that you keep Dea- con Steve and all our seminarians in your prayers. We have some fine and talented young men, who will be ordained in just a few months. I am excited for their futures, and I know that God will bless them in a most special way every day of their lives! In Christ’s Peace, NEWS AND EVENTS In honor of Presidents Day: On Monday, February 18, there will be one Mass only at 9:00 am. The Parish Center will be closed. 2019 Sharing God’s Blessings Annual Appeal: Last weekend was the start of the 2019 Sharing God’s Blessings Annual Appeal. This campaign provides the necessary resources to sustain Archdiocesan programs and ministries. If you wish to watch the video from the Archdiocese of Newark, a link is availa- ble on our website. Please be as generous as possible. Thank you for any help you can provide. If you choose to donate online, please visit www.ranc.org/sharing. Special Collection Next Weekend on Feb. 23/24: Next week we will take up the Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. This collection supports the Church in more than 20 countries that are still struggling to recov- er in the aftermath of communist rule. Funds from this collection support pastoral care, catechesis, building renovations, and seminary formation. Your support restores the Church and builds the future in this region. Please prayerfully consider how you can support the collection next week. More information can be found at www.usccb.org/ccee. Protect Viable Babies Postcard Campaign: Last weekend, our parish participated in the postcard campaign to ask our NJ State Representatives to Support the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (A537) which would protect ba- bies in the womb at 20 weeks and beyond. (This is just the first step in protecting all babies in the womb.) COLLECTIONS FOR THE WEEK ENDING February 10th Offertory $ 20,506| Online $4,649 | Total $25,155 2
