Volume 33, issue 3 Holiday 2019 Helping Hands A publication of the Hillside Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Inc. Thank You! As the year comes to a close, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to you, our supporters! Your generosity and kindness have made it possible for us to keep our doors open for the thousands of animals that pour through our facility each year. You have helped feed hungry animals, given a warm place to sleep for animals without shelter, provided a safe haven for mistreated animals who are learning to trust again and helped those unloved animals find love. The Hillside SPCA is not just a shelter, it is a home for these animals. It is a place where they can run and play each day, where they sleep on blankets in their beds, where they are hugged and kissed and never have to worry about the cruelty of the world again. We think of you throughout the year, but especially as the weather turns colder and the holiday season begins. Despite the cold, we are warm, snugly and safe in our Buddy wonderful home that you have provided. We love and cherish each of you every day of the year. Some days, our task seems overwhelming, then we will receive a card or note from you and we know we are not alone in our passion to make a better world for our four-legged friends. You give us strength to continue doing what we do at the Hillside each and every day to continue the work at Hillside. Christmas is coming Are my presents Looking for a and I hope that this year we three Forever Home! adorable felines will finally be adopted by a wonderful family who will love and care for us all our lives. Every day we wait patiently for that special person to look into our faces and see the love in our eyes and say, “I want you!” My name is Amelia and I’ve been waiting quite a while for that day to come. Hillside is a wonderful place where everyone takes really good care of us, but when they go Pumpkin Frost home after a hard day’s work it gets lonely, even though I have lots of buddies here. I’ve seen many of my Hillside’s Special Elves buddies come and go and I’m really Santa’s elves work all year long. Hillside’s elves happy for them. Still, I wonder why also work year round. 4 Hillside SPCA Helping Hands Vol. 33, Issue 3 Joe & Caroline’s Fund So it’s Christmas… It was a time that Barbara used to LOVE. I think it’s the reason she kept her house decorated for Christmas year-round. Perhaps there were other reasons for it, but what’s not to love about Christmas, right? It’s a season to bring friends and families together. Barbara used to talk about watching her favorite Christmas movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” with Joe and Caroline. Putting the kids in their Christmas jammies, tucking them into bed, eating way too many cookies and having too many Coca- Colas. Those were the good days. Many of us would love to go back to those days when everything was so much easier. The idea of snuggling into a freshly made bed on a snowy day sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? Now that we are all grown up, we know that Christmas can be a sad time for some people. Barbara had a way of reaching people who were sad and lonely and making them feel special. This Christmas, Barbara will be with Joe and Caroline and those of us that worked closely with her honor her memory by carrying on the work that she cherished. If you find yourself feeling low this holiday season or maybe you just want to give back, we invite you to come to the shelter to walk a dog, pet a cat or hang out with us. Barbara had a way of accepting all types of “misfits” as we teasingly call each other. Everyone is always welcome at the Hillside and there is never a shortage of animals that will help cheer you up. Many animals at Hillside would not be alive if it were not for the graciousness of the humans that helped them along the way. The Hillside was a safe haven for Barbara when Joe and Caroline died. It gave her purpose to go on. Now, the Fund keeps us going because we see, literally, thousands of animals saved because of it. We are so grateful Enclosed to all of our friends that help Joe and Caroline’s Fund. Our army is a mighty one. Keep on going! . Joe & Caroline’s Wish List Fund!
