M’Powers in Action for LINUS Pre-Assessment Community Issue M’Powers together with staff from POOR LITERACY SKILLS IN BAHASA MALAYSIA Generasi Gemilang and our co-sponsor from Outpost Uniform Growing evidence reveals a strong link between corporate volunteering initiatives and performance: A 2011 Deloitte Study found that millennials who frequently participate in volunteer activities are more likely to be satisfied with their employer and are nearly twice as likely to be very satisfied with the progression of their career. These satisfactions demonstrate how corporate volunteering can be a successful vehicle to improve employee engagement levels and the associated benefits of employee productivity, morale and retention. Since 2018, Mah Sing has always been on the lookout for great examples of employee volunteering through its annual Corporate Responsibility Day. On 4th March, five employees from HQ stepped up to spend their evening with the kids of LINUS programme pre-assessment at PPR Pudu Ulu. The LINUS (Literacy & Numeracy) programme is one of MSF sponsored programmes this year in partnership with Outpost Uniform and non-profit organisation, Generasi Gemilang. Aimed to build the basic skills of reading and writing in Bahasa Malaysia, LINUS is targeted at primary school students from the B40 families in PPR. The 2.5hour session was a pre-assessment of the students in gauging their literacy level. “Fulfilled” and “Contented” – These were the two main reactions that our M’Powers exclaimed at the end of the session. They were happy for the time they have spent with the children, and also for the opportunity to better understand the children’s needs in improving their basic literacy.
