R E G I S T R AT I O N I N F O R M AT I O N HOW TO REGISTER FOR OUR PROGRAMS: Online: www.mbts.com You will need a username and password in order to utilize the online program registration system. Online registration is live. Walk in: Manchester by-the-Sea Recreation Town Hall 10 Central St Manchester. Payments can be made by check, credit card or cash. All payments are due at time of registration. Mail in: Manchester by-the-Sea Recreation Town Hall 10 Central St Manchester, MA 01944. A completed program waiver must be sent in along with full payment. Please do not send cash. Checks should be made out to Town of Manchester. If paying with a check, please indicate the program registering for in the memo & amounts. Registration & payments are not accepted at program sites. Phone registrations are NOT accepted. POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: Age/ Grade Requirements: Participants must meet the age/grade requirements by the first day of the program or session. Low enrollment: Programs must meet the minimum number of participants one week prior to start date or program will be cancelled. To avoid this we urge you to register EARLY! Fees : Full payment is due at time of registration unless otherwise stated or unless a payment plan has been previously set up with the Recreation Department. There is a $25.00 charge for all returned checks. Waiting Lists: If a program is full by the time we receive and process your registration we will add you to the waiting list and contact you immediately if and when an opening becomes available. Program changes: Since many of our programs are held at the school, occasionally locations and/or program dates may change. We will email any changes to any previously registered participants. Please check our website for updated information. Refund/ Credit Policy: When you register for one of our programs, we depend on your participation to make it successful. A full refund will be made only if programs are cancelled, the Department makes changes that prohibit your attendance, or you have an unforeseen medical problem confirmed by a doctor’s note. If you are dissatisfied with a program for any reason and wish to cancel, the Recreation Department must be notified in writing before the beginning of the second class to be considered to receive a refund credit minus a $25.00 processing fee. If a refund is granted, a credit will be placed in your account for future use. Cancellation policy: We will do our best to reschedule a make up for a cancelled class, however we cannot guarantee it. If we are unable to offer a make-up class, we will issue a credit for that class. Weather cancellation: If you are questioning if your class is cancelled due to weather call our CANCELLATION HOTLINE at (978) 525-6429 . We will also post all cancellations on our Facebook page.
N EW WINTER TRADITION SPONSORED BY THE HOOPER FUND ORGANIZED BY MANCHESTER PARKS AND REC GENREROUSLY SPONSORED BY THE HOOPER FUND This is a free event but you must pre-register to attend this event at www.mbtsrec.com! Let’s lose the winter blues on Friday, January 24th from 6:00-8:00pm! We will have different stations set up; you can play gym games with Mr. Boria, learn dance from Miss Garofalo and sing with Miss Dooley. This event is for children in grades K-5. Play “Wintery” Gym Games with Mr. Boria. Learn a dance to a “Wintery” song with Miss Garofalo. Learn a “Wintery” catchy song with Miss Dooley. Gingerbread magnet craft. Hands on fun. Create a mini “Wintery” scene on a graham cracker. Yummm. Let’s get creative. Have your face painted by Elaina Jacobs. Say Cheese! Have your picture taken with Frosty! Please bring a canned good or a new pair of socks for a local homeless shelter. Thank you!!
PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH CLAY CLASS WITH MISS BROUSSEAU (GRADES K - 5) Creative Clay is an after school pottery class for students in grades K-5! During this four week class, students will hand build tableware and creative objects with clay. We will complete them with colorful glazes. Please bring a water bottle and smock. Classes will be taught by local artist and teacher, Kristen Brousseau, owner of http://www.ceramicadelmar.com. No Class on 1/20 Dates: Mondays, January 13th- February 10th Time: 3:00-4:00pm Location: Meet in front lobby at Memorial Fee: $140.00 PRIVATE BEGINNER UKULELE/ GUITAR LESSONS WITH RUTHANNE PAULSON (AGES 7 & UP) Learn how to play the ukulele and or guitar with North Shore Performing Arts instructor, Ruthanne Paulson. Private lessons for beginners ages 7 and up!!!! Learn different chords and strumming patterns to play songs for your own enjoyment. Manchester Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer this as a 4 week class of instructional musical class in hopes to spark an interest in these instruments. Must bring your own instrument. Once registered Ruthanne will schedule your 30 minute lesson. These basic principles are key to strong vocal performances. Register your child and see if singing is their thing? Maybe they will be ready for an audition for Nickelodeon? Dream big! Once registered Ruthanne will schedule your 30 minute lesson. APRANS ( GRADES 3-5) Chess Club is a 3rd - 5th grade after school club designed to give kids an opportunity to learn the game of chess, improve their chess skills, and to enjoy competition against their peers. Novice players will be taught the basic rules, the value of pieces, and how to checkmate. More experienced players will learn different opening and defense strategies, various tactics, and will be given the opportunity to challenge themselves by solving chess puzzles. While students will have the chance to measure their progress through wins and losses against their peers, our main focus will be on encouraging good sportsmanship and having fun. (No class during February Break). Before you become the next Mozart, you’ll need to learn some keyboarding basics, like how to properly sit at a keyboard and what the different keys are. With enough practice, you can learn to play your favorite songs on the keyboard, and maybe even write a few songs of your own. Join North Shore Performing Arts instructor, Ruthanne Paulson. Once registered Ruthanne will schedule your 30 minute lesson. Climb aboard a virtual submarine, explore the underwater world, and dive in to the science and technology behind ocean exploration, climate change, and the changing relationship between people and the sea. This allows them to be less reactive when new things come up, and be more apt to accept change, both on stage and in life. Acting is not just for kids that enjoy center stage its perfect for the child that needs a little boost of self confidence. Build your acting skills with fun theater games, improvisations and skits. Join North Shore Performing Arts instructor, Ruthanne Paulson. Throw on a costume, dive into the prop box and use that imagination. Get ready to learn how fun it is to be in character and act! BORIA (GRADES 1-5) Just because we’re in the depths of winter doesn’t mean the good old outdoors is off limits. A breath of fresh air, and a spot of running about, can be as welcoming in the winter as it is at other times of the year. In fact, it could just be the solution for cabin fever that’s reaching boiling point, after weeks of being stuck indoors. Fundamentally, enjoying outdoor winter activities with kids is all about having the right gear. Wrap them up warm and waterproof from head to toe and you’ll see a smile wedged between their rosy cheeks. Mr. Boria will be playing sports, sledding, snow shoeing and other fun winter outdoor activities. (No class during February Break). FEB VACA WEEK W/ KNUCKLEBONES- SURVIVOR / AMAZING RACE CHALLENGES Once again MPR is teaming up with Knucklebones!!!! Knucklebones will bring unique games to the children of Manchester by the Sea. With over 250 seasons from the US & aboard, Survivor has created some of the greatest challenges on television. Manipulating various challenges, participants will work to outwit, outplay and outlast through mental, physical and creative tasks. Working in groups, pairs and individuals, participants will be presented with their very own season of Survivor. Please pack a peanut free lunch and water bottle every day. Dates: Tuesday - Friday, February 18th - 21st Time: 1:00pm-4:00pm Location: Memorial School Gym Fee: $145.00 APRIL VACA WEEK W/ KNUCKLEBONES- SURVIVOR / AMAZING RACE CHALLENGES Once again MPR is teaming up with Knucklebones!!!! E A R LY R E L E A S E D AY S EARLY RELEASE, BOSTON BOUNCE (GRADES K - 5) On this half day from school Manchester Parks and Rec has organized a super cool trip to Peabody to jump the winter blues away at Boston Bounce. Please pack your child a peanut free lunch, the children will enjoy their lunch in the cafeteria before the bus will pick us up for our adventure down 128. Please make sure your child is wearing comfy clothes and socks! This trip will surely fill up quickly, don’t delay and register today! Date: Wednesday, February 5th Time: 12:00pm-3:00pm Location: Meet in the Cafeteria/Gym Fee: $35.00 EARLY RELEASE MOVIE IN GLOUCESTER “SONIC THE HEDGEHOG” (GR. K - 5) On this half day, we will be taking a quick bus trip to scenic Gloucester to enjoy “Sonic the Hedge Hog”. Please pack your child a peanut free lunch, the children will have time to enjoy lunch before the bus comes. All children will get a free popcorn and water at the Gloucester Cinema. Feel free to pack your children a couple dollars to spend at the concession stand. Date: Wednesday, March 4th Time: 12:00pm-3:00pm Location: Meet in the Cafeteria/Gym Fee: $35.00 EARLY RELEASE, CAPE ANN VERNAL POND TEAM VISIT (GRADES K-5) Eeeek so exciting! Rick Rothe from Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team is coming to Manchester Memorial School to teach the MPR kids about snakes and vernal ponds. Rick will bring his favorite slithery friends to show the children. At the end of the presentation the children will get to ask questions and get to touch all of the snakes. This special day also include pizza and drink (Yes, that means Mum and Dad wont have to pack a lunch). This fun day will fill up fast, don’t delay and register today! PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH & MIDDLE SCHOOL FRIENDSHIP BRACLET MAKING WITH MRS. HESLOP (GRADES 1-5) Look what craft Mrs. Helsop is teaching this season!!!! Learn how to make colorful and fun friendship bracelets! Students will use embroidery floss and start with a simple spiral bracelet. Then we’ll explore the fish tail braid, the diagonal, the chevron pattern, and more. By the end of the program, students should have several bracelets adorning their arms! All supplies including in class fee . (No class during February Break). Date: Thursdays, January 16th - March 12th Time: 3:00-4:00pm Location: Room #6 Fee: $95.00 SAFE SITTER ESSENTIA LS W/ CPR (GRADES 6-8) Designed for students entering grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watch younger siblings, or babysitting. Students learn life saving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s chocking, and helpful information like what do if there's severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activates and role- playing exercises. Students even get to use CRP manikins to practice choking rescue and CPR!! This class with be taught by certified Safe Sitter Instructor, Trevor Souther from Newburyport Youth Services. Please pack your child a lunch and drink. P R O G R A M S F O R YO U T H MORNING GYM The program is designed to meet the needs of families with busy mornings. The children have the opportunity to play freely in the gym or play organized games with instructors Yvonne Robbins and Karen Manos. The class runs from 7:15 am – 8:15 am. If you are interested in participating in this morning gym please fill out the registration form. Once we have this form on file you are welcome to send your child any morning without notice. We take daily attendance and bill you. Your balance with MPR is due on the 15th of every month for the previous months use. Didn’t have time for breakfast?? No problem, send them with one and they will have plenty of time to eat before school starts. Dates: Every School Day Time: 7:15am - 8:15am Location: Memorial School Gym Fee: $6.00 per day HORNET’S AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM The Hornets’ After School program offers a safe, supportive alternative between school and home for children in grades K - 5. Activities include outdoor play, open gym, arts and crafts, homework time, seasonal activities and daily snack time. Program runs every day from 3:00-6:00 pm at the Manchester Elementary School. Parents have the option of sending their children 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 days per week. Tuition is paid on a monthly basis on the first of each month. Please pack warm clothes we will play outside everyday with weather permitting. They meet on a monthly basis. Beginning on Thursday, January 2, 2020 non-residents can begin making reservations for the Tuck’s Point Chowder House. Full payment is required at time of reservation. All caterer information must be received in full 30 days before the scheduled date, or the date may be forfeited. Reservation forms are available at Manchester Town Hall and online at: www.manchester.ma.us/recreation. Check for available dates online at www.mbtsrec.com! 2020 RESIDENT RATES: Monday - Thursday $250.00 Friday - Sundays $300.00 2020 NON–RESIDENT RATES: Monday - Thursday $575.00 Friday - Sundays $675.00 C R O W E L L C H A P E L R E S E R VAT I O N S Crowell Chapel is a small gothic looking stone structure located at 4 Rosedale Avenue in Manchester, Massachusetts. Commissioned to be built by Susan Crowell in memory of her brother Benjamin Franklin Crowell in 1903, the chapel is one of Manchester’s hidden jewels. The chapel is available to rent on a first come first served basis and any interested party should contact Manchester Parks & Recreation at 978-526-2019. Reservation forms are also available online at: www.manchester.ma.us/recreation. The chapel capacity is 140 people. RENTAL FEE SCHEDULE: Wedding or Similar Function $500.00 All other functions: $300.00 (Christenings, Memorial Services, Recitals, etc.) The Chapel use Is based on a 4 hour time block. Additional time available at an additional cost. Manchester based non-profit groups are welcome to schedule meetings or events during regular business hours free of charge!
