CATCH A LEPRECHAUN Gather the supplies and get ready to have some fun! Supplies CATCH HIM • Shoe box • Aluminum foil • Glue • Tape • Green felt • Craft form or paper • Shamrock stickers • Scissors • ANDBait (see below) Directions HE 1. Cover the shoe box with aluminum foil using glue or tape to hold it in place. WILL 2. Cut shamrocks out of felt, foam, or paper, OR use stickers to decorate. 3. The night before St. Patrick’s Day, leave the trap by the front door. Leprechaun Bait GIVE • • Rainbows (skittles or M&M’s) Lucky Charms cereal YOU • Shiny coins HIS POT O’ GOLD 3
DRAW A LEPRECHAUN FACE Here’s an Irish blessing to get the creative juices flowing: May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light. May good luck pursue you each morning and night. 4
ST. PATRICK’S DAY POPCORN This yummy treat will put a smile on your face. Ingredients • 12 cups popped popcorn • 1 cup sugar • Parchment paper • 1/2 cup corn syrup • 1/3 cup butter • Medium sauce pan • 1 envelope green Kool-Aid • Baking spray • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder • Baking sheet Directions 1. Preheat your oven to 225° and then pop your popcorn as directed. 2. In a medium saucepan, add sugar, corn syrup and butter. Bring to a boil and boil for 3 minutes while constantly stirring. 3. Remove from the heat and add in the Kool-Aid envelope and baking soda. Stir well. 4. Spread popcorn on baking sheet and pour mixture over the popcorn, stirring until completely coated. Bake up to 40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes until done. 5. Remove from the oven, spray parchment paper with baking spray. 6. Let cool completely before breaking into pieces. 7. Store popcorn in airtight container. 5
BLARNEY STONE Fun Fact: Did you know there’s a Blarney Stone here in Dublin, Ohio? It’s located in front of Indian Run Elementary. Take a photo with the Blarney Stone and post it using #DublinIsHome. Supplies • Smooth clean river rock • Markers • Paint brush • Green paint • Glue • Glitter, sequins, googly eyes, yarn, etc. Directions 1. Wash and dry a smooth, clean river rock. Make sure your rock is clean and dry. 2. Paint the rock green. Allow to dry. 3. After the paint is dry, decorate your rock using glitter, sequins, beads, plastic jewels, googly eyes, bits of yarn, or other interesting items. 4. When the paint and glue are dry, add details (like eyebrows, etc.) using markers. People think that KISSING the stone will give them the “gift of gab” (making them good at talking). In order to kiss the stone, people have to lie on their back and let their head hang back over a ledge. 6

SHAMROCK FUDGE A tasty treat to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! This simple recipe will be a hit with the whole family. Ingredients • 1 jar vanilla frosting • 12 ounces white chocolate candy melts • Green gel coloring • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract • Holiday sprinkles • Aluminum foil Directions 1. Line an 8x8 pan with foil. 2. Microwave the frosting on 50% power until slightly runny (about 30-40 seconds). Stir in peppermint extract and gel coloring. You want to make the frosting a little darker than you want the fudge, as the chocolate melts it will lighten. 3. Microwave the candy melts on 50% power stirring every 30 seconds until almost completely melted. 4. Gently stir the melts and the frosting together and spread into prepared pan. Add sprinkles if desired. Refrigerate 30 minutes and cut into squares or with cookie cutters. 5. In this size pan, the fudge pieces are about ⅝” thick. If you would like a thicker fudge, you can double the recipe. 9
