Home Learning Pack for Reception Wednesday 6th January - Friday 8th January 2021 This pack does not need to be printed. Pupils can work through the learning using their own pad/exercise book. Pupils can gain extra support by clicking on the links throughout this pack.
Daily Time Table Time Subject 9.00- 9.20 PE (Click on/type link for Wake up with Joe)/Walk These timings are a suggestion 9:30-10.00 Busythings, Purple Mash only; please do what works best for your family. 10.00-10:30 Phonics including Sound books, Tricky words and reading practise I will be available to answer any questions over email 10:30–11:00 Break/ Mindfulness activity/snack between 9 and 10 am every ‘school’ day. 11:00-11.30 Maths Please send regular emails with 11.45-12.00 Story/reading practise (Oxford Press) followed by lunch your child’s work. I’d love to see it! READING PRACTISE It is very important to keep up with reading practise. Please use free resources on Oxford Reading tree to choose books at your own child's level every day. WEDNESDAY - PHONICS - ‘OO’ Practise sounds: oa, f ,k, ch Tricky Troll words: to, the, no, go, I New Sound and Story: I like books by Anthony Browne – ‘oo, oo, I like books’ scratch your armpits like a monkey Tell children that when we see two o’s together they make a different sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVu2cIJyUOw Demonstrate by reading words below. Draw a line underneath the ‘oo’ to show the letters are going together to make one sound (digraph) and practise reading them Wood, book, hook, look, cook Write a sentence and miss out a word – together read the sentence and work out which word would fit in. Get your child to write the sentence themselves or just add the missing word. The pirate has a …….. (hook) Look at my red ………..(book) A dinosaur ………my book. (took) I like to ……….some lunch. (cook) Please also use this time to go over sounds in sound book and words in both your tricky troll and fairy word books.
WEDNESDAY – MATHS Read or watch the story of Six Dinner Sid using the link below. How many times do they hear 6 ? Ask the children to make or draw houses to represent Sid’s street. WEDNESDAY – LITERACY I would love to know what you got for Christmas and what you did with your family. Can you choose your favourite present or your favourite activity and draw a picture of it. Write underneath what it is using your sounds – you could use your sound book to help you remember them. Email the picture to Mrs Turner at: Reception@oasisbyron.org
THURSDAY – PHONICS – ‘OO’ Practise sounds: oo, oa, igh, v, Tricky Troll words: to, the, no, go, I New Sound and Story: Whatever Next by Jill Murphy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6c5cb0u0rPM ‘Oo oo zoom to the moon’ crouch down with hands above head with finger tips touching then jump into the air like a rocket. Read some oo words together: zoom, boom, balloon , moon, zoo, cool, food Write the ‘oo’ words above on pieces of paper with your child's help then hide them around your house (outside if possible) when the child finds a word they spacewalk slowly making sounds then blending the word Please also use this time to go over sounds in sound book and words in both your tricky troll and fairy word books.
THURSDAY – MATHS Review: Talk about numbers we have learnt so far and look at Numberblocks 1 – 5 talk about their different features Watch Numberblocks Meet 6 episode https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08pgksd/numberblocks-series-2-six This episode focuses on subitising which is recognising a number of objects without needing to count them. This is a very useful maths skills. THURSDAY – UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD Winter Sing the seasons song together https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksGiLaIx39c Talk about the different seasons. What season are we in now? How do you know? What do we need to do in winter to keep warm? Wrap up warmly and go on a winter walk locally. Look carefully at the trees and see what you notice.
FRIDAY – PHONICS – ‘AR’ Practise sounds: oo, oo, w, sh, ai Tricky Troll words: to, the, no, go, I New Sound and Story: Shark in the park by Nick Sharatt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2RwvAHUAdc ‘Ar ar shark in the park’– place straight hand on top of your head creating a fin shape. Give the children 6 toys and see how many ways they can find of splitting the group. After they have tried a few ways encourage them to record them and see how many they can find altogether. They could draw different ways of could write numbers. E.g. 3 and 3, 2 and 4, 5 and 1, 2 and 2 and 2 – please take a picture and email it in.
FRIDAY – WINTER Remind children about their walk yesterday and what they found out about winter. Talk about birds in the winter. How do they find food when the ground is hard and there is nothing on the trees? Please also leave some water out for the birds when the weather is very cold.
