TRANSITION LAYOUT The transition area is marked in red above. Competitors will set their equipment up in age categories - this will be sign posted well and directed by transition officials. The transition will be open 30 minutes prior to the competitors race start. Competitiors can collect their equipment once all athletes have completed the cycle leg of the race. This will be at the descretion of the transition official - to ensure safety and fairness of all athletes. TRANSITION RULES Bike racks are laid out in age group categories - you must follow the directions of the transition official or marshals Only competitors are permitted in the transition area Wind trainers must not be used in the transition area Helmets must be fastened before removing your bike Push your bike to the mount line and get on your bike after the mount line Dismount before the dismount line and push your bike back to your spot You must return your bike to the same place it was racked at the start RUN COURSE The first run course is a clockwise lap of Teretonga Track. One lap of Teretonga Track is 2.6KM. Each age category will have a different start point which will be sign posted well. The second run course is a clockwise loop in the middle of the course - 1.1KM per lap. Please say on the left side of the track at all times unless passing other competitors.
CYCLE EQUIPMENT SECONDARY SCHOOL EVENT (NON-DRAFTING) Rims 45mm or less - no disc wheels The end of both handle bars must be securely covered with end plugs Aero Bars and clip ons allowed Wheels must have a minimum of 12 spokes Helmets must be worn at all times Only handlebars and clip-on bars not extending beyond the leading edge of front wheel are permitted SPRINT DISTANCE EVENT (DRAFTING) No disc wheels The end of both handle bars must be securely covered with end plugs No aero bars or clip TT Bikes Helmets must be worn at all times NON-DRAFTING - SCHOOL EVENT Please keep to the left of the track at all times unless you are passing Obey race officials at all times If you do not keep left, you risk a blocking penalty (you are not playing fair as you are impeding the other competitors from riding fairly) Draft zone is 10m long by 3m wide. You have 20 seconds to complete your pass - see registration area for an example of what the area size looks like You must not pass on the left If you receive a drafting penalty you will be shown a blue card with your race number on it. You must stop and wait as directed by Technical officials. The official will time your penalty which is one minute for all schools Failing to stop for a penalty will result in disqualification Receiving more than two penalties on the bike is also a disqualification DRAFTING - OPEN EVENT SPRINT DISTANCE EVENT (DRAFTING) Please keep left at all times unless you are passing You must not pass on the left Obey race officials at all times Bikes must be road worthy and mechanically sound No aero or TT Bikes
FINISH The finsh line is over the final timing mat - please do not stop on the mat, but keep running across it to keep the finish line clear. We also have a manual timing system as back up. Once finished, you must confirm your number and time. WITHDRAWL If you pull out, you must tell a race official - failures to do this will result in unnecessary delays. RACE NUMBERS You will be given a race number to wear on your front AGE GROUPS SECONDARY SCHOOL EVENT: The age groups are Under 12, Under 13, Under 14, Under 16 and Under 19. Age is taken at January 1, 2020. Competitors must be 10 years or older. Entries in the teams event will be placed in the age group of the oldest team member. Age of the athlete is taken on 1st January in the year of competition. SPRINT DISTANCE OPEN EVENT: Male Open & Female Open - Depending on numbers, we will start all open competitors together, or will stagger the start times. For open events, the age is taken on 31 December in the year of Competition. For more information on an athletes age, see section 2.5 of the Triathlon NZ Competition Rules. TEAM INFORMATION The cyclist may have their helmet on in the tagging area, but rack to rack helmet requirement still applies. Helmets must be worn when unracking and racking your bike during the race Do not warm up on the track when individuals are racing - there is allocated time before the race to warm up on the track Wind trainers must not be used in the transition area Team members are to wait in the appropriate team tag area and exchange the timing chip before proceeding The team cyclist must re rack their bike prior to completing the timing chip exchange
FURTHER INFORMATION In an emergency, see an event marshal who can assist First aid will be available on site No spectator or non officiation vehicles are allowed across the track at any time Wearing any headphones is not permitted during the race This event is conducted under the Tri NZ Rules Protests must be lodged with the race referee within 30 minutes of the race completion. Only the race referee has the authority to deal with protests. ITU WORLD CHAMPS This is a Triathlon NZ selection event for the 2021 ITU World sprint distance duathlon championships to be held in Almere; Netherlands in 2021. To be eligible (Eligible Athlete) for selection in a Tri NZ National Age Group Team (Team), you MUST on selection race day: Race in the South Island Sprint Distance Event (Draft legal) (not the Schools event) Be a citizen of New Zealand, be a permanent resident of New Zealand or have been residing in New Zealand for a minimum of 12 months (subject to clause 6 below); and Be a current member of Tri NZ (TRIBE) and be in good standing with Tri NZ; and Be a current member of a Tri NZ Affiliated Club (List of clubs available at www.triathlon.kiwi). Nomination Form must be submitted within two working days of the event, qualify and be eligible. Age-Group calculation for the World Champs is taken as at the 31st December 2021. An athlete’s best three results from any event within the series will be calculated, using the acclaimed Thorsten Radde points system, to establish the Series Champion. Participants in all Suzuki National Triathlon Series events for the 2020/21 Season go into the draw to win a Suzuki Swift!! At each Suzuki National Series Champion event this season, one lucky person per championship race will be drawn from all those eligible. The winner from each event will then have a chance to win the Suzuki Swift drawn at the conclusion of the 2020/21 Tri NZ Suzuki National Series. In addition to the Event Day Entry there will also be an opportunity for one ULTIMATE SERIES CHAMPION entry which is added to the final prize draw. To be eligible for the ULTIMATE SERIES CHAMPION entry you must be the Age Group Champion for the Series in your Age Group. One extremely lucky person from this eligible group of athletes will be drawn at random with the winner then in the draw to win the Suzuki Swift drawn at the conclusion of the 2020/21 Tri NZ Suzuki National Series Please make sure that you are familiar with each Suzuki National Series events prize draw and eligibility process to ensure you are in the draw to win!
