Notice of Race • PFD Rule – CMSR Compliant PFDs shall be worn by all crew members while on deck from sunset to sunrise. PFDs shall also be worn while on deck during daylight hours unless the Person-In-Charge instructs that they may be removed. • Boat or Division Changes – An Invited Competitor wishing to enter or change the entry of a boat, Division, or boat and Division to other than specified in the invitation may request approval from CYCMC by submitting to the Selections Committee a Request For Change (RFC) online at http://competitor.cycracetomackinac.com/requestchange.cfm prior to the entry deadline. If the change is approved, the Selections Committee will issue a new invitation for the new boat/Division. If not approved, the existing invitation will remain valid.
Notice of Race • Division Eligibility and Formation Deadline – CYCMC shall establish Divisions by the Division Formation Deadline date. A minimum of six (6) paid entries is required from boats intending to race in the Division by the Division Formation Deadline date. In the event a boat enters a Division that is not established, CYCMC may offer entry into a different Division or may refund a boat’s entry. • Race Tracker Agreement – Electronic submission of a completed Race Tracking Agreement, to be completed on-line via the Race website. Failure to return the tracker in accordance with Race Tracking Agreement and SI’s shall result in a $1,000 charge.
Notice of Race Safety Training Requirement • At least 50% of a boat’s crew (rounded up), one of whom shall be the Person-In-Charge, shall hold certification, first issued not more than five (5) years prior, verifying one of the following : • US Sailing Offshore Safety at Sea Class (1-day in person or online version at htps://www.boaterexam.com/sailing/safetyatsea/). • International Offshore Safety at Sea with Hands-On-Training Class (2-day). • Equivalent class approved by another World Sailing Member National Authority.
Notice of Race Safety Training Requirement (cont.) • All crew members under the age of 18 on the start date of the Division in which the boat is racing shall hold certification, first issued not more than five (5) years prior, verifying one of the following: • US Sailing Offshore Safety at Sea Class (1-day in person or online version at htps://www.boaterexam.com/sailing/safetyatsea/). • International Offshore Safety at Sea with Hands-On-Training Class (2-day). • Storm Trysail Foundation Junior Safety at Sea Seminar first issued not more than five (5) years prior to the start date of the division in which the boat is racing.
Notice of Race Safety Training Requirement (cont.) • Equivalent class approved by another World Sailing Member National Authority. • Minor crew members certified under this paragraph (b) shall count as certified when calculating the 50% requirement of paragraph (a).
Invitation & Registration Updates Invitations are scheduled to be issued February 1. System will open for updating, Entries, Requests For Invitation, and Request For Change (of boat, division) at that time. If you are a returning competitor but do not receive and invitation, check your spam folder. If invited but you do not receive an email, you can still log in to your profile and start the entry process.
Mac Invitations & Registration Profile Error Messages, Data Enforcement • System will automatically enforce unique email addresses and cell phone numbers. If an email or cell number is in use by two crew members, both profiles are incomplete until fixed. If an email and/or cell number is in use by a crew member and an emergency contact, the crew profile is incomplete until fixed. • System will automatically enforce an emergency contact cannot be a person who is on a boat during the race – we need an emergency contact who is on shore, reachable at all times during the race. (If desired, can list someone on a boat as “additional emergency contact” in the Notes section).
Mac Invitations & Registration Profile Error Messages, Data Enforcement • Crew Profile - Detailed messages for crew & competitors as to exactly which items are preventing crew profile from counting as complete, and why. • Separately identify for crew member issues which only the Invited Competitor can fix: • Duties • Over 18?
Mac Invitations & Registration New Nice Touches • Crew profile reformatted to vertical layout to allow more room to explain what is required in each field • Crew History link added to Crew Profile • Boat & Competitor History links added to Entry Menu, and for the public looking at Current Entries, by clicking Invited Competitor’s name or the sail number • Histories are experimental. Go back to at least 2009, in some cases to 2005. If yours is missing some data from 2009 or later, email the Regatta Manager and we will attempt to fix. We plan to embed history links in more places on the website.
Mac Invitations & Registration Updated Policies, Agreements, and Waivers • Privacy Policies for “Competitors and Crew” and “General Public” have been updated. • All crew members must click link accept/agree to - Privacy Policy - Race Operational Communications (email, text, phone) - Photography, Video and Media Rights (we can use your photo) • Boarding Pass can now be signed by the Person In Charge as well as the Invited Competitor. (Still requires Invited Competitor to log in and print the Boarding Pass, but could “print” to PDF and email to PIC to sign and present)
Mac Invitations & Registration Crew Profile – New Fields • Are you a European Union Citizen or Resident? ( Y/N - required) • Do you carry a Personal Locator Beacon? (Y/N – required) • Do you carry an AIS Search & Rescue Transponder? (if yes, enter 9 digit MMSI number) • US Sailing Membership ID (optional) • World Sailing ID (optional) • World Sailing Classification (optional)
Mac Invitations & Registration Crew Profile – fields requiring updates • Safety at Sea – course Date must be exact date of course (was simply Year) • Safety at Sea – course Type must be the name of the course, rather than “1 Day” or “2 Day”. Choose from a drop-down list of valid courses • Number of nights of overnight racing • Number of races 100nm & 24 hours • Over 18 as of Today? (If crew member was 17 last year and is now 18, ONLY the Invited Competitor can update from No to Yes)

Safety Regulations (CMSRs) Requirements • Man Overboard Practice – At least two-thirds of a boat's crew shall practice, within six months prior to the Race, man-overboard procedures appropriate for the boat's size and speed. At a minimum, the practice shall consist of marking and returning to a position on the water under both sail and power, and demonstrating a method of hoisting a crew member back on deck, or other consistent means of reboarding a crew member. A Crew Overboard Drill Certificate of such practice(s) shall be signed by participating crew members and kept aboard the boat. The certificate shall be downloaded from the ”Race Documents” section of the Mac website: www.cycracetomackinac.com
Safety Regulations (CMSRs) Recommendations • Safety at Sea Hands on Training - At least 30% of those aboard the boat, but not fewer than two members of the crew (unless racing single-handed) including the person in charge, shall have attended a US Sailing International Offshore Safety at Sea Course with Hands-on Training within the last 5 years, or an equivalent course of another national authority. Safety Equipment: Emergency Communications • Effective January 1, 2021, a boat shall have either an AIS transponder or an AIS receiver, properly installed and permanently connected to a suitable antenna. If a transponder is installed, it shall meet the requirements of 3.9.
