editorial F riday, 6 March 2020 was the last time we were all together. A cold Friday night, everything pre, during and post match was as normal as it ever could had been. We won 2-0, the same faces chatted to the same people as normal and as we descended the steps after the match we bade our friends goodbye with the flippant, yet assuring, words that we’d see them against Dundalk, which was the next home game. Bars were packed as normal, hands were shook, coins handed over for drinks, food or programmes, turnstiles, doors, handles, and seats to name a few touched without instantly smearing our hands in antibacterial hand gel. Premier Division Everything was as it should be, everything was normal and we really had no 1923/24, 1927/28, reason to think otherwise. 1929/30, 1933/34, Then, well, that was it. Gone, lives changed beyond any Netflix 1935/36, 1974/75, apocalyptic scenario. Amongst the many things we’ve had to adapt to over 1977/78, 2000/01, the last 16 months was our lack of Friday night normality. While some of 2002/03, 2008, 2009 us have been lucky enough to get into games since, either as a working steward or part of the lucky few selected alphabetically to attend a match FAI Cup in recent weeks, some haven’t seen Bohemians, or indeed the regulars of a 1927/28, 1934/35, match night in Dalymount, in person since that night last year. It’s just not 1969/70, 1975/76, something that should happen. But it did, it continues to and hopefully we 1991/1992, 2000/01, are starting to emerge from the nightmare. 2008 Tonight though will give us a chance to see each others again. While the 6,000 of us are spaced out around the Dublin Arena/Aviva/Lansdowne Road League Cup or whatever it is you call it, it offers us great opportunity to bump into 1974/75, 1978/79, 2009 someone we haven’t seen since then and this being Bohs, we’ll probably bump into everyone! It’s good to be all back together, good to know Setanta Cup familiar faces and friends are at the game, somewhere. Let it be the start of 2010 much-needed return of the old times... with Keith Long G ood evening and welcome to the from the dugout Dublin arena for tonight’s Europa League Conference qualifying rounf second leg against Stjarnan. I would like to extend a warm welcome to Thorvaldur Örlygsson his staff, players and delegation that have made the trip from Iceland. It would have been nice to bring the tie back to Dalymount but the Dublin Arena is not a bad substitute especially with so many of you able to attend and I am sure all of you will make yourselves heard and will get behind the boys in our attempt to progress to the next round. Stjarnan will come to Dublin with plenty of con dence and they will be better prepared as a result of last Thursday’s game. They are a well organised team with some very good players who can hurt us if we are not fully focused. It is half time in the tie and we know we will have to perform at our best tonight. On Thursday in Iceland we had plenty of possession without creating a huge amount of chances but we were patient and we got the goal our play deserved after conceding a disappointing goal from our perspective. The second half was much better in terms of tempo and with a little more quality in the nal third we could have scored a second goal. However to come away with a draw away from home with such a young group of players coming from a goal down gives us hope. It will be dif cult, tjarnan are a very experienced side but we have given ourselves a chance which is important. Finally a message to you our supporters ‘Stjarnan will come to who have been starved of live football for the Dublin with plenty of last sixteen months. I cannot tell you how confidence and they will be happy we are to have you with us tonight and we hope we can produce a performance to better prepared as a result make you proud. with Stephen Lambert A from the club very warm welcome this evening to the Aviva Stadium to all Bohemian FC members, season ticket holders, fans, and indeed any neutrals here to support us in this Europa Conference League second leg tie. This pandemic has thrown up many problems for football clubs, but ironically it has given us the opportunity to all be here tonight. To have 6,000 fans here tonight means everything to everyone at the club, but especially our players, some of them yet to play in front of a packed Jodi, so I’m sure they will get a glimpse of how supportive our fans are here tonight who will create a magni cent atmosphere in this wonderful arena. Once again a huge thank you to all who have made this evening possible, Joe McGlue and his staff at the FAI, Daniel Lambert and the many volunteers at our club who work tirelessly in the background on so many projects week in week out. Whatever happened to... 9 Sporting Fingal A club still fresh in the memory, Sporting Fingal was a project by Fingal County Council and property developer, Gerry Gannon, to bring football to the community of County Fingal. Replacing Kilkenny City, the club announced its arrival in 2007 with grand intentions of a new stadium and a self suf cient academy that would generate Pitchside players for the senior team. In the interim, they would play their matches at Morton Stadium in Santry. ‘Another Dublin club’ wasn’t received positively, particularly one close enough to Tolka and Dalymount Pointers and so soon after the much derided Dublin ity led out.
