NEWSLETTER NO. 5 MAY 5, 2021 BASS COAST SS NEWS BASS COAST SPECIALIST SCHOOL Dear Parents and Friends, I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable Easter break with your family and close ones. We have been so busy this term, it feels like the holidays were months ago! The students have returned and settled very quickly in their routines, ready to learn and move on to new adventures with their class. In the Junior school, the new Preps have adapted very well to their full week and are enjoying their weekly visit to Summersalt gymnastics on every Wednesday. In Room 3, our literacy tutor Angela Holland, has reported that the students are becoming well engaged in their lessons and enjoying our new resources from Little Learners Love Literacy. This week, they have been busy coming with words that begin with ‘C’. The Middle school has enjoyed a positive result from the additional class with our new teacher, Natalie Giliam. The smaller classes have been engaged in more tar- geted programs yet are being given many opportunities to learn and refine their social skills with shared activities along with their peers from different classes. As a matter of fact, Room 1 and 8 recently shared a day of sailing in beautiful sunny Westernport Bay, together with the Newhaven Yacht Club. Meanwhile, the Senior school has been busy rolling out their applied learning cur- ricula through the canteen, outdoor education, Hopeworks and community engage- ment programs. Never before have the senior students been given so many oppor- tunities to engage in hands-on activities where they can learn as they ‘do’. Here, the students are given a chance to participate and experiment in different programs which will help them transition and have experience in a future beyond Bass Coast Specialist School. Our purpose at Bass Coast Specialist School is to create meaningful pathways for our students to become contributing, valuable citizens and I have never been prouder to belong to this school and join in the journey with our students. Yours in education, Caroline Sibly Assistant Principal Student Free Day — Monday 24th May

NEWSLETTER NO. 5 Page 6 MUSIC Last Thursday we had the privilege of having Caulfield Grammar School visit us and hold a music concert. They brought along two of their Stage bands and a Saxophone ensemble. Our students were mesmerised by the amazing band filling our gym with warm sounds from the brass, woodwind, percussion, guitars and subtle jazz notes from the keyboard.
