THE AU’s POLICIES AND PROGRAMMES FOCUSING ON YOUTH Agenda 2063 “Aspiration 6 -An Africa Whose Development is people driven, relying on the potential offered by African People, especially its Women and Youth, and caring for Children” Africa Youth Charter “Article 26a calls on young people to be custodians of their own development” African Plan of Action for Youth Empowerment (APAYE 2019-2023) Provides the blueprint for youth programming at continental, regional and national levels in Africa through: Game-changing flagships – Education, Foundations for implementation – Data, Employment, Entrepreneurship, Technical assistance to and capacity coordination, partnerships and resource Engagement & Health building for AU Member States mobilization 1 Million by 2021 Flagship programme of APAYE focused on providing opportunities for 1 million young people in the areas of Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Education (4Es) AU DD TVET CESA STISA DPOA MPOA Roadmap Strategy 2

YOUTH ENGAGEMENT
THE AUC YOUTH ENGAGEMENT STRATEGY ENGAGING YOUTH ON THESE THREE (3) TIERS SELF DEVELOPMENT Activities, trainings and initiative which build up 1 the individual young person and equips them with the necessary tools to meaningfully engage COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT Bringing together young Africans who are 2 equipped with the requisite tools to engage at the community level, in order to cascade trainings and activities to young people in communities ADVOCACY AND PLATFORMS 3 Providing spaces for individuals and youth groups to have conversations and exchange with each other and their duty bearers. 6
DELIVERING YOUTH ENGAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP MOCA New online and offline networks ESTABLISH Establish new online networks through web-based and social media engagement and sensitization, as well as physical meetings, conferences and activities. MOBILIZATION Existing Groups and Networks MAINTAIN Engage and maintain existing networks, including self-organized youth groups to create a continent-wide network of diverse groups who can organize in numbers for meaningful engagement and impact. Youth Engagement Toolbox ORIENTATION TRAININGS The toolbox provides the minimum standard training , mentorship and incubation for all youth who come into the AU Youth network to create solutions for the continent, and builds capacity on the 3 tiers of youth engagement. Online Presence VIRTUAL Increase reach and engagement of youth voices across the continent through webinars, online advocacy, social media engagement and other online methods. CONVERSATIONS Conferences, Events and Meetings PHYSICAL Facilitate important conversations, advocacy sessions, knowledge exchange and experience sharing through high-level events – AU Summit, STCs, etc – and specific youth events of the AU, Member States, COMMUNITY Individual and groups ACTIVATION ENGAGEMENT Implement engagement and solutions at community level to create change and achieve positive results; and advocate on & ADVOCACY issues for better societies at different levels. 7
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT & EMPLOYMENT STRATEGY Catalyzing Education and Enhancing skills Skills revolution underpinned development systems that by Science, Technology and are responsive to changing Innovation with greater links skill needs with industry. Focus on a Paradigm Shift Fostering Digital Skills where young people are Development and trained to be job creators Entrepreneurial training to rather than job seekers enhance youth employability. 8
AU LEARN AT A GLANCE - AU Learn is an e-learning platform - It provides user-friendly, relevant and inclusive professional development opportunities to young people across the 55 Member States. 9

Offer knowledge, capacity building and skills development opportunities to learners from the continent To provide an inclusive and widely accessible platform for youth among the 55 Member States Offers relevant and engaging learning resources and trainings (interactive, discussion, quizzes, infographics, videos and case studies) for young people 10
HOW SELF-PACED Where learners can learn in their own time and schedule. BLENDED Where there is a combination of offline and online learning in a way that one compliments the other. TUTORED TRAINING Where learners and trainers meet virtually in a classroom, following a schedule. 11

Empowering Youth in Nuclear Sciences ● Build the capacity of young people in Nuclear sciences ● Engage with the African Young Generation in Nuclear (AYGN) in to increase youth engagement, capacity building, and knowledge transfer in the Nuclear and allied fields ● Throughthe Division’s network to mobilize young people to maximize the opportunities in the Nuclear sciences 13
