What is the European Solidarity Corps? New initiative to create opportunities for young people to volunteer or work in projects that benefit communities and people around Europe Announced by President Juncker in the State of the Union speech in 2016 Target: to offer solidarity activities to 100,000 young people by 2020
A European Solidarity Corps occupational placement means: • A WIN WIN FOR ALL: young people improve their employability while helping others • QUALITY EMPLOYMENT: jobs and traineeships will always be paid by the hosting organization • A CLEAR PATH AHEAD: written traineeship agreement or employment contract to be agreed in advance • A SPARK FOR THE FUTURE: young people can try, whether a career in a solidarity sectors is right for them • DEVELOPING NEW SKILLS: the opportunity to learn “on the job” and gain valuable professional experience
Solidarity Jobs and Traineeships In areas such as: • Education • Health care • Social integration / social work • Environmental protection • Food aid
Examples: Jobs and Traineeships • Nurse • Teaching assistant • Programme assistant in NGO • Internship in the European Parliament • Traineeships with organizations working with migrants, refugees and other vulnerable groups
OCCUPATIONAL DIMENSION 1st phase – 2 Pilot Projects Occupational placements: Jobs and paid Traineeships Facilitators: Two projects led by two Public Employment Service (IT, FR), together with other partners Target: up to 6,000 cross-border placements until May 2019 Budget: up to EUR 14,2 million from EaSI Activities: in areas such as healthcare, social integration, environmental protection, assistance for migrants / refugees, or food aid.
Tasks of the two project leaders
OCCUPATIONAL DIMENSION What is in it for young people? • Making a contribution to society while at the same time developing skills and employability • Traineeships are paid (top-up subsistence allowance can be paid) and in line with Quality Framework for Traineeships (written agreement, having a supervisor); 2-6 months • Jobs will be remunerated according to national laws; obligatory employment contract; 2-12 months • Travel costs and language courses are covered • European Solidarity Corps certificate • Post-placement support
OCCUPATIONAL DIMENSION What is in it for employers? • Become part of an EU-wide movement of solidarity • Access to a pool of thousands of young Europeans with diverse skills and competences • Financial support of up to EUR 2000 per recruited worker to cover expenses related to integrating the young person successfully into the company • Expenses to recognise diplomas and qualifications of the young participant covered (EUR 400) • Language training costs covered (up to EUR 1500)
How can young people take part? European Solidarity Corps Portal • Young people register in the database • Express interest in occupational placements • Important: Upload an updated CV! • Young people are matched with organisations Organisations can search for suitable candidates on Portal Young people can apply directly at vacancies published on Portal or contact the two pilot projects (see next slide for contact details of the projects)
How to find a solidarity related job on the EURES portal? 1. Register on the European Solidarity Portal https://europa.eu/youth/solidarity_en 2. Visit the EURES portal eures.europa.eu 3. Click on the "green button" (Search for a job) 4. Scroll down and select the "social jobs" filter in the solidarity context box 5. If you found an interesting vacancy, send an email to the project leads with a link to the vacancy. They will be able to tell you if your vacancy follows the European Solidarity Corps rules and will explain to you the next steps.
