Healthy Healthy Habits Habits 1. Choose good carbs, not no carbs. Whole grains are your best bet. 2. Pay attention to the protein package. Fish, poultry, nuts, and beans are the best choices. 3. Choose foods with healthy fats, limit foods high in saturated fat, and avoid foods with trans fat. Plant oils, nuts, and fish are the healthiest sources. 4. Choose a fiber-filled diet, rich in whole grains, vegetables, and fruits. 5. Eat more vegetables and fruits. Go for color and variety—dark green, yellow, orange, and red. 6. Calcium is important. But milk isn’t the only, or even best, source. 7. Water is best to quench your thirst. Skip the sugary drinks, and go easy on the milk and juice. 8. Eating less salt is good for everyone’s health. Choose more fresh foods and fewer processed foods. 9. A daily multivitamin is a great nutrition insurance policy. Some extra vitamin D may add an extra health boost. Contribution by Nicolle Ramirez Carranza Conversation with a Counselor 1.What are some things we can do to make everyone one feel included ? “I try to greed all students and just be genuinely happy to see them so that they know that they're here at Lowes Grove, just on a basic level like I'm happy you're a part of the viking family”. 2. What are the things you do as a school counselor to help promote diversity and inclusion? “I try to use really really inclusive language and encourage a good environment of acceptance and positivity, and that's with race and athnethicy but it's also like gender and identity and just making sure everyone feels like there's a safe space for them to be who they are ,is respected “. 3. What are some things you would like to see students do to help everyone feel welcomed at Lowes Grove? “ I'd like to see be nicer to each other when it's not a critical situation. I see a lot of students who are kind when they see a classmate who is having a difficult time but they don't extend that same kindness when a classmate is like everything is normal.” 4.what does diversity and inclusion mean to you? “Diversity and inclusion means that all aspects and facets of student and staff identity are acknowledged ,respected and honestly celebrated because there's joy in our differences. 5. How often do you see students not being included ,and what are the actions you take? I think more of the students not being included that i see is on a individual bases a lot of times because students are shy so other students don't know them i don't think i seen any inclusion based on cultural aspect and so when i see that i often try to pair people with like a buddy to kind of support that i run small groups that are very like representative of the student , try to kinda encourage ,general environment of respect and inclusivity and acceptance READING RECOMMENDATIONS Contribution by Joseph De La trinidad- Flores Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life Recommendation for 6th Grade Go on a journey with twelve-year-old Rafe Khatchadorian as he shares his middle school experiences.
