WINDERMERE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL After-School Enrichment Program for Fall Quarter 2021 • Registration for the Fall 2021 session is September 20th at 9:00 AM through September 26th, 2021 at 9:00PM. However, please note the sooner the better to determine if a class is going to have the minimum number of students or the class may fill up. Registrations will be processed in the order in which they are received. Beginning with class start dates. • If there is insufficient enrollment for a class, it will be cancelled and your fee refunded. You will be notified via email of this change. PLEASE check your email on a regular basis in the days prior to session start date for important class info and possible class cancelations. • Confirmation notices will be sent via email immediately after registration. Please contact Rachel Ely at rwoolley41@hotmail.com if you have not received a confirmation or if you have any questions or concerns. Class locations are TBD. Within a few days after registration closes, you will receive an email with the exact classrooms your child's class will take place in. Don't forget to check your email regularly. • Students must arrive promptly to class. ALL students must wear a mask during each class and in the school building. Your child should know where to report and if he/she is uncomfortable finding the classroom, please make arrangements to escort him/her to the class location. During the first week, we will do our best to send emails to students teachers to help with reminders on class days. Please remind your child on his/her class day as to what their after- school plans are. • It is important for you to make arrangements for prompt pick-up of your child after class. Due to the safety guidelines that the district has set in place, please pick up your child outside of the front doors. The instructors will walk the students outside. PARENTS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED INSIDE THE BUILDING. (There are no provisions for supervision except during class time.) • Master catalogs are available in the school office and on the Windermere PTO website at http://uawindermerepto.org/. Please note: • No telephone or e-mail registrations will be accepted; • Please do not send cash as payment. ASL 1 Introduction to American Sign Language will offer students the opportunity to learn basic everyday signs that will apply to school and family life. Students will be learning about the difference between sign language and English, the importance of facial expression and body language, where sign language originated, as well as the proper ways to interact with deaf and hard of hearing friends. All this is done in a fun, relaxed atmosphere, conducive to learning! This class is very popular and fills up quickly. (Maximum number of students = 12) Instructor: Karen Knight, Windermere Sign Language Interpreter Dates: Tuesdays: 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/1, 11/9 *Please note class will be switched from Tuesday (11/2) to Monday (11/1). All other classes will be held on Tuesdays. Time: 3:00-4:00PM Grades: 1st-5th Location: Classroom TBD Fee: $90 Chess Learn to play chess or just sharpen your skills. Beginners should know how to move and set up the pieces with some help. The class is open to even the most advanced. Everyone will have fun. (Min/Max number of students = 8/18)
Instructor: Don Jones (senior tournament director US chess federation) Dates: Wednesdays 10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27, 11/3, 11/11/10 Time: 3:00-4:00PM Grades: 1st-5th Location: Classroom TBD Fee: $80 Gotta Sing Gotta Dance Musical Theatre: We believe music is an emotional outlet, a gateway to self discovery and internal appreciation of ones self. These fundamental personality cores are taught through a variety of musicality lessons and patterns of dance available to all ages. Our group classes encourage personal growth, technical skill development and team work. For this particular class, students will work on movement, choreography, blending, solo and choral work, harmony, medleys, performance skills, singing techniques, self expression, confidence, musical connection, diction and audition tips. Our mission is to share, inspire, educate and instill passion through musical theater. We aim to enrich lives through artistic expression. We encourage individuality and believe musical theatre can be a way to share ideas and emotions one cannot express alone. Yoga Empowering children to be active participants in creating their own heart driven, healthy, and peaceful lives! Learn tools for stress management, increase physical strength & flexibility, and refine balance & coordination. Classes incorporate movement, artistic, and creative outlets for relaxation and Joy. Carroll Baker’s classes are a great way for your child to have fun learning to become an amazing magician, performer, and presenter. Beyond the entertainment value, magic helps improve digital dexterity, coordination, visual
perception, spatial relationships, critical thinking, creativity, public speaking skills, self-confidence, and imagination. This class will focus on some of the greatest magic effects of the last 200 years. Our after-school enrichment classes are taught by our native Spanish-speaking teacher Señora Ariadna, who is from Puerto Rico. Señora Ariadna uses FUN and interactive games, activities and student-to-student call and response methods, making it fun for everyone to learn Spanish. All students will receive access to their Spanish class' "Student Corner" webpage for between Spanish class learning. So, let's all get together after-school and have fun learning Spanish! Tiny Picassos Intro to Comics Join us for this introduction to comic book art taught by Hannah, a recent graduate of CCAD's Comics program and instructor at Picassos. Artists will learn hand-drawn comic techniques, character design, storyline concepts, background creation, & grid structure. (Min/Max number of students = 4/15) Instructor: Hannah Donavon Dates: Wednesdays: 10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27, 11/3, 11/10 Time: 3:30-4:45PM Grades: 3rd-5th Location: TBD Fee: $160 Painting through the Ages Learn painting styles and techniques from major periods in art history. Each week is a different historical period. Art of Animation Let's get animated! Join us for a 6-week introductory class to the world of animation. Students will start off with the history of animation, and then move into a sampling of the full animation pipeline, including character design, storyboarding, and animation principles and practices. The class will have several projects and will culminate in a larger project that will be spread out over the last three classes. (Min/Max number of students = 4/15) Instructor: Mackenzie Bigley Dates: Thursdays: 10/7, 10/14, 10/21, 10/28, 11/4, 11/11 Time: 3:30-4:45PM Grades: 3rd-5th Location: TBD Fee: $160 STEM Challenges In this session, students will be presented with a different STEM challenge each week. Using the engineering design process, kids will design, test, modify, test and finalize! Students will also problem solve to complete the activity. Students will engage in varied activities such as building catapults to launch objects, designing boats to hold specified weights, designing cars with specified materials, creating a marble maze, creating a robotic hand, and building the tallest free standing structure. (Min/Max number of students = 8/16)

Led by certified personal trainers and running coaches, students will learn the basics of proper running form, play running games and of course get some laps in! Our goal is to create a love of the sport at a young age. *In case of rain, we will run the halls of Windermere as well as learn stretches perfect for runners and maybe try some new, fun exercises that will help them to become stronger runners.
