TRUMBULL HIGH SCHOOL Daily Announcements Thursday, October 7, 2021 A Day NEW INFORMATION ➢ THS goes PINK October 22! Support Breast Cancer Awareness on Friday October 22 by wearing your PINK to school! Limited Edition "Real Eagles Wear Pink" tshirts and sweatshirts are available for purchase in the school store. ➢ Boys Basketball - If you missed the pre-season meeting for Boys Basketball and are interested in trying out for the team, please see Coach Bray in the Main Gym as soon as possible. ➢ PSAT - On Wednesday, October 13, 2021, students in grade 9 will be administered the PSAT 8/9 and students in grades 10 and 11 will be administered the PSAT/NMSQT. Grade 12 students will be exempt and will not be required to report to school. Grade 12 students are encouraged to use the day to work on college applications, visits, or any other post high-school planning activities. Grade 9-11 students, please bring the following materials: • 2 - No. 2 Pencils with erasers • A graphing or scientific calculator • Snack and Water • If you have extended time accommodations, please bring a bag lunch. ➢ GSA - (Gender and Sexuality Alliance) will be having our first meeting on Wednesday October 6th afterschool in the Media Center Classroom. Come and help us brainstorm ideas for our club this year! If you are not already in the classroom or if you have any questions? Email Mrs. Foster- kfoster@trumbullps.org ➢ Ally for Angels Club - There will be a meeting on Thursday, October 7 in Room A17 for students who are interested in participating in the Ally for Angels Club. One of our first activities is to sponsor The Mittens for Many Program to help keep children and adults warm tor the cold, winter months. ➢ DECA - Come get the "scoop" on DECA - this Thursday October 7 at 2:30 in room C25. This will be an informational meeting so you can learn more about what DECA is and what we do! Bring an interested friend. ➢ Spanish Honor Society Members - Our first mandatory meeting will be on Thursday 10/7 in the media center at 2:30 pm. We will introduce our officers and explain all the essential information about our services this year. If you cannot make it to the meeting, contact Sra. Costantini or Sra. Manso-Garcia." ➢ Eagle's Soaring Team: Hey students and faculty this FRIDAY'S THEME 10/8 is... SPORTS! Please wear any appropriate sports attire that you have. Note there are different signup tabs for the free shot vs. the $25 session ➢ Rugby Team - Rugby is coming to Trumbull High School! We are excited to announce that we will have our very first Trumbull Eagles rugby team this Spring. There will be a pre-season Boys and Girls Rugby Team meeting on Monday, October 18th immediately after school at 2:45 in the Senior Lounge for any high school student interested in participating on the boys or girls teams. This meeting is an informational session only for anyone interested in learning more about the exciting sport of rugby and the plans for our inaugural season. This is not the official season sign-up and no prior rugby experience is needed. There will be pizza, snacks and beverages served, so come by and bring your friends! Questions? Contact Coach J.T. SENIORS are invited to join our NEHS Google Classroom by using the code posted in the Grade 12 Senior Google Classroom. The 21-22 National English Honors Society New Member Application is now live! Please review the posted application and submit the attached form within the NEHS Google Classroom post by Wednesday, October, 6th. A hard copy of the posted cover sheet, a recent writing sample from one of your English classes, and a copy of your transcript is due no later than Wednesday, October 6th to Mrs. Gomes in B11. For any questions, see Mrs. Gomes .(B11), Mrs. Kravecs (B2), or Mrs. Shupp (B31). We look forward to reviewing your applications and starting our THS NEHS Chapter! ➢ AYSO’s VIP Soccer Program—(formally known as TOPSoccer) Fall Season 2021— September 25th- November 6th (new dates), Saturdays 2-4:30 at Kaechele Field, Trumbull. Become a Buddy volunteer (ages 12 & older). Assist players with special needs to learn the game of soccer. Soccer experience is not needed, but training is required (independent work & one zoom session). Our program continues to accept volunteers after the season has begun. All returning members should plan on attending. New members, especially 9th graders, are welcome and encouraged to attend for this great way to love languages (18 in total) and win medals (at least 200 and counting from our great contestants/language lovers here at THS)! Get to know what the COLT Poetry Recitation Contest is all about. Our meetings are on the last Wednesday of the month in C33. Join the COLT Google Classroom: dgwgewr. Next week, the Junior and Senior classes will be selling tickets for the Harvest Ball (Cotillion), which will be held on Monday, November 1 from 6:30-10:00 at the Waterview in Monroe. Tickets are $70 per person, and will be sold in the following way: Students will be seated at assigned tables of either 10 or 12 people. In order to purchase tickets, have one person be the lead to purchase the tickets. The lead should have money (cash, or a check made out to ""THS"") and a signed permission slip for each person with whom they wish to sit. Any unused tables will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis. We cannot hold spots at any table. We will be selling tickets at the following times: Tuesday, October 12 during all lunch waves Wednesday, October 13: after the PSATs Thursday, October 14 during all lunch waves.
Permission slips are available in House Offices or can be downloaded from the Google Classrooms for the Junior and Senior classes. Because of space restrictions at the Waterview, we can only allow THS Juniors and Seniors to purchase tickets. Sorry! " ➢ Girls Basketball - There will be a pre-season meeting for anyone interested in trying out for the Girls Basketball team on Monday, November 8th at 2:30 in the Senior Lounge. ➢ Late buses will begin on Monday 9/20/21. Late buses run Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Students need to be outside in the back of the B house side of the building by 3:10 pm. Late bus schedules with bus stops are posted in all house offices and house bulletin boards. COLLEGE AND CAREER ➢ LinkedIn - 10/28 - a guest speaker from Microsoft will be joining us afterschool (2:30 pm) to discuss LinkedIn (an online professional resume and networking tool). The meeting will take place in the College & Career Center. ➢ College Board's Real Talk: HBCU Edition - Wednesday 10/13 & Thursday 10/14 - 7 pm - this event is a two-part series where students can connect with representatives from 17 HBCUs - register: https://globalmeet.webcasts.com/starthere.jsp?ei=1499044&tp_key=d851110c45&SFMC_cid= EM595152-&rid=30306000 ➢ COLLEGE REP VISITS - begin on September 20th for juniors/seniors, they will take place both in-person and virtually this school year, please see the list of schools visiting in Naviance and watch the video Mrs. Collins posted in the 'class of' google classroom for more information on how to attend and what to expect. ➢ Southern CT College Fair - October 5th - 4-8 PM - Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater - register at strivefair.com, for more information go to ctcollegefair.com. ➢ ACE (Architecture Construction Engineering) MENTOR PROGRAM. Have a career interest in architecture, construction, interior design, or engineering? ACE (Architecture Construction Engineering) MENTOR PROGRAM will have an open house for this year's program on October 6th at 4 pm via Zoom. The race is on Sunday morning October 17. Volunteers are needed to help with set up, serving food, checking in runners and giving out water on the race course.
