Himalayan Echo September-October Vol: 53/18 Nepal Region Newsletter September-October From the Desk of the Regional Superior... annual Retreat-2018 The advent of winter season proclaims the arrival of august festivals in Nepal. Dashain Festival is one of the most important Hindu festivals which is celebrated all over Nepal delightfully. The festival, Dashain honors a great conquest of the gods over the evil demons. Tihar is the second biggest Nepalese festival after Dashain. It is considered to be of great importance as it shows a contribution not only to the humans and the gods, but also to the animals like crows, cows, and dogs that maintain an intimate relationship with humans. St Paul writes, ‘Glory be to him whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine; glory be to him from generation to generation in the Church and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen’ (Ep 3:20, 21). These words rang true to all our sisters who attended the annual retreat given by Fr.Ignatius Topno SJ from Patna Province. This time the retreat was held in St.Mary’s, Pokhara with thirteen participants. People make patterns named ‘Rangoli’ on the floor of their living rooms or courtyard using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand or flower petals etc. This special place is meant to be a sacred welcoming area for the Gods and Goddesses of Hinduism mainly Goddess Laxmi. We are on the mid way of Dashain and Tihar. Swinging along with the mood of the country, Dashain holidays were spent by most of the sisters in making retreats and thus washing away the dirt in us and After the hectic activities in all the missions, the spiritual internally cleansing ourselves. The panoramic beauty of the place added the serenity and beauty of solitude experienced by the retreatants. The sisters thank Fr.Topno and St.Mary’s community for making it possible for them to have this graced time with Jesus. -Sr.Vinita Mazhuvanchery -Sr.Jessy Puliyanthuruthel
