Specific dogs may be photographed only with the approval of the exhibitor. No photography or filming is permitted in breed judging rings whilst judging is actually taking place. However, judges may allow it to happen at the end of classes or after the Challenge Certificate is awarded. However, if a powerful flash unit is used or if it is clear that exhibits are being affected, a ring steward or the judge is empowered to stop the person concerned. 2
THE KENNEL CLUB SPECIAL BEGINNER COMPETITION The Kennel Club is delighted to announce its sponsorship of a Special Beginners Competition from 2018 at General and Group Championship Shows to encourage more exhibitors to experience a Group competition. Each show society will be required to schedule a Special Beginner class for dogs and bitches in each breed plus AVNSC and Imported Breed Register classes. The Best Special Beginner to be declared for each breed plus AVNSC and Imported Breed Register classes to go forward to the group competition. It is hoped that exhibitors and the competition itself will receive maximum visibility at each show. It is preferable for all judging to take place in the main ring, although it is accepted that this may not always be possible. If time does not allow for all judging to take place in the main ring, pre judging can take place, but the final decision and presentation of awards must be made in the main ring. It is at each society’s discretion as to the time the group is to be judged. The Kennel Club will provide sponsorship in the form of rosettes 1st – 4th for each group together with prize money of £100 for each group to be awarded as follows: 1st prize - £40, 2nd prize - £30, 3rd prize - £20, 4th prize - £10. If you would like to include the Special Beginner Competition at your show please let me know so that I can provide more details about the issuance of rosettes and prize money. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at Kennel Club licensed events. O When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams. O If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all. O The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink. O Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog. O When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle. O Keep the dog in the shade—take your own shade, for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated. O Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog’s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK, FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the Board for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. The use of pinch collars, electronic shock collars, or prong collars, is not permitted at any show licensed by the Kennel Club. This shall apply at the venue or within the precincts of the show. 17. THE KENNEL CLUB BREEDERS’ COMPETITION Judge Rob Sansom 390 ANY VARIETY TOY BREEDERS’ COMPETITION AV TOY GOOD CITIZEN DOG SCHEME CLASS Judge Ernie Paterson (Sponsored by the Kennel Club) 391 ANY VARIETY TOY GOOD CITIZEN DOG OR BITCH For Toydogs that have received their GDCS Bronze Award Certificate or above. THE YOUNG KENNEL CLUB MEMBERS STAKES Judge Irene McManus 392 Special Open Toy Dog or Bitch Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligible for entry into a YKC qual- ifying stakes class. Dogs must be on the Kennel Club Breed Register to compete in a YKC stakes competition. The first placed member only in each dog group at the qualifying show will qualify for Crufts. A rosette will be awarded. If a member is disqualified, the qualification does not roll down to the next placing. All pedigree dogs are eligible to take part provided the dog is registered on the Kennel Club Breed Register. The dog must be registered a) solely or jointly in the member’s name or b) in the name of a close member of the family (i.e. a group of people related by blood or by marriage) and under these circumstances the dog must be resident at the YKC member’s address. No substitute handlers are permitted — the dog must be handled by the registered YKC member. Members are not permitted to allow another individual to show their dog at the qualifier on their behalf if they are not able to attend the class, unless agreed by the YKC Office prior to the show. Members must be aged 6 - 24 years (members 6 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). Please note that membership of the YKC terminates on a member’s 25th birthday. Therefore if a member is aged 25 years or over by the first day of Crufts they will be unable to compete in any YKC class. Please keep this in mind when entering qualifiers throughout the competing year. In order to enter any YKC competition you must be a fully paid up member at the time of entry and competition. If you enter a Crufts qualifier and you have not previously paid your membership fee then any award will be forfeited Therefore it is important to renew and maintain YKC membership as current if you wish to participate in YKC competitions. YKC MEMBERS JUNIOR HANDLING Judge Sophie Langdon 393 AV Special Open Toydog - Handler 6-11 years (for members of 6 years and up to, but not including 12th birthday) 394 AV Special Open Toydog - Handler 12-17 years (for members of 12 years and up to, but not including 18th birthday) 395 AV Special Open Toydog - Handler 18-24 years (for members of 18 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday) Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligible for entry into a YKC qual- ifying class. Qualification is on a points basis as follows: 1st place = 30 points; 2nd place = 20 points; 3rd place = 10 points. Members will receive points per group (i.e. if they handle a Bloodhound, they will get points towards the Hound group). If a member gains 30 points in any one group, they will qualify to enter a dog from that group at Crufts 2019. If a member gains 30 or more points in multiple groups, they may only compete with one dog at Crufts, but they will have the option to choose from any of the groups they have 30 or more points in. A full copy of the 2018 rules (for Crufts 2019) can be found here: http://www.ykc.org.uk/media/8824/ykc-handling-regulations-2018-crufts-2019.pdf. The classes are divided into three age groups: 6-11 years (6 years and up to, but not including 12th birthday). 12-17 years (12 years and up to, but not including 18th birthday). 18-24 years (18 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday).
