Sam’s initial fascination with the bourbon industry and history grew out of his childhood in Woodford County in which there were no operating distilleries, only distillery ruins. He believes a bourbon is about the hard work and dedi- cation of the team that makes the bourbon. While packaging is important, the team’s dedication and will to distill are the heart of the spirit. Bluegrass Distillers began distilling in 2013, mashing each ounce of grain by hand and opened its doors on West 6th Street in Lexington, KY in 2015 at its current distillery in the Bread Box building. The Distillery is community-focused and gives back through their Philanthropic Barrel Program. Bluegrass is currently undergoing a major expansion at the Historic Elkwood Farm in Midway, KY where they will relocate with an expanded distillery, barrel warehouses, tasting room, visitor center, and event spaces in late 2021.

Our Membership roster has been inundated with new and returning Members to levels not seen in years. The June calendar was fully subscribed with tennis and pickle ball events, two home swim meets, a New Member Reception, Taste of Spindletop Series and Father’s Day Brunch. Throw in a few all-sport camps, happy hours, Mem- ber ala carte dining both at Tiki and the Mansion, plenty of private parties, and a very successful outdoor wedding, that have all helped Spindletop flourish, while still coming out of the tail-end of a pandemic. Spindletop Hall has made great progress in a very short amount of time, however still faces many daily chal- lenges related to the pandemic. I thank the Members and the entire Spindletop Service Team for your continued patience as we navigate through the obstacles of shipping delays, food and beverage shortages from our purveyors, and onboarding the correct employees who will be exceeding your expectations on every visit. A club is an ever evolving, delicate ecosystem, and I remain confident that Spindletop will continue to spring forth from its 2020 position and continue to grow in all capacities to best serve the Membership of Spindletop Hall. Speaking of evolving, I have some bittersweet news to share with everyone. Jean Lockwood, our Membership and Marketing Manager who has been working here for over fourteen years, has decided to retire. On behalf of the entire Spindletop Hall Membership and Service Team, congratulations on your retirement! Over the span of her Spindletop career, Jean has always provided a smiling face, caring demeanor, and one of the first initial contacts for new Member’s joining the Club. Jean has been instrumental this year with our Spring Membership drive and ensuring Spindletop has the Membership support needed to sustain the Club well into the future. Please join me in congratulating Jean in this new chapter of her life and thank her for her many years of service to Spindletop Hall. Thank you. Jean will continue working behind the scenes, for a limited amount of time, to guarantee her successor, Alex Smith, has every advantage to be successful as she transitions into her new position of Membership and Marketing Manager of Spindletop Hall. We continue to offer numerous recreational and social opportunities this summer for your family’s enjoyment and for your ongoing support of Spindletop Hall. Please make sure to read up on all the details found in this edition of our newsletter and continue to be vigilant as we provide updates on all Club happenings on our various platforms. As always, I encourage any feedback that you may have about Club operations. It is this feedback that drives the Spindletop Service Team and myself to constantly reevaluate, refine, and evolve the Clubs everchanging operations to exceed your expectations every day. Thank you for your continued support. See you soon and often. Matt Post, GM
