July 2019 The Brass Nuts Page 5 The Pava’s Tour, Barbecue and Ice Cream Social By David Pava Pictures: David Pava and Stephanie Mozell In what has become an annual event on Sunday June 9, Patricia and I invited members of the local chapters of the Horseless Carriage, Model T and Model A Clubs for a tour followed by a barbecue and ice cream social in our orchard and vineyard. This year’s tour route was approximately 60 miles, traveling east from Coffee and snack stop at Camp Cameron Park through the Gold Rush towns of El Dorado and Diamond Richardson. Springs and then Pleasant Valley. Next we headed south, crossing the Cosumnes River three times before reaching the Shenandoah Valley, heart of the Amador wine country. Some tour participants stopped at a winery or two – while others continued through the quaint town of Plymouth, heading south on Old Sacramento Road and then north on Latrobe Road, crossing the rapidly running river a final time before arriving at the Pava’s home. The weather was perfect and the back roads very lightly traveled, offering spectacular serene views. Antique cars parked in the orchard and vineyard as tour participants were greeted with ice cold Sangria. As participants socialized, the barbecue was lit and lunch served. Simultaneously, Hangtown A’s member Bill Nixon fired up his Model T powered ice cream maker to the delight of all who watched and later enjoyed this special treat. Guests were able to create their own Ice Cream Sundae with chocolate or caramel sauce, cherries and whipped cream.
Page 6 The Brass Nuts July 2019 Some guests toured the hobby winery while others enjoyed visiting in the warm afternoon sun. Thanks to all who joined us. We will do it again next year – the tentative date is June 14, 2020.
July 2019 The Brass Nuts Page 7 1915 HUDSON IN ORANGEVALE TOWN PARADE By: Sue Hill On June 1, 2019, Bob and Helen Hopkins drove their 104 year old Hudson in the Pow Wow Day’s parade in Orangevale, the former name of the parade. It is now called the Orangevale Town Fair Parade. They helped represent the Orangevale Woman’s Club in which I am a member. Tina Machua of television’s Good Day was Grand Marshall and Sue Frost, Sacramento County Supervisor District 4 rode in Rio Linda’s first fire truck, driven by Terry Barnes. The weather was perfect for the parade. It was good to see old No. 1 in the parade. As many of you know, members of the NCRG were responsible for getting old No. 1 restored; namely, Les Crane and Dick Mitchell. NCRG members also helped with the restoration back in the day. NCRG continues to help the Rio Linda community by attending fund raisers to get engine No. 2 back on the road. Our way of giving back to the communities in which we live.
