ANNOUNCEMENTS

Book Club-Any student interested in joining the Book Club should email Mr.
Hampton (hamptonb@hasdk12.org) no later than Friday, October 2nd. The first
meeting will be held virtually via Teams. Meetings will occur monthly, and students
are encouraged to come prepared to discuss any novels or stories they are currently

Chess Club
Any student interested in joining the chess club should email Mr. Teter at
teterr@hasdk12.org. Chess club is open to all students in grades 9-12. The first
chess club meeting will take place via Teams on Thursday 10/1/20 at 2:45.

Class of 2023
The Class of 2023 will hold its first meeting on October 7th at 2:40 through
Teams. Students in all three high school buildings are invited to join to plan class
activities. Please mail Mrs. Conston (constonl@hasdk12.org) to be added to the
Team for the meeting.

Class of 2024
We will be having our first Class of 2024 Executive Council meeting on Tuesday,
October 6 at 2:45 via Teams. This will be our first virtual meeting. If you are
interested in joining our Executive Council, please email Mrs. Beiler
(beilerk@hasdk12.org), Ms. Brown (browne@hasdk12.org), or Mrs. Moore
(moorea@hasdk12.org.) by Friday, October 2 so we are able to add you to the
Microsoft Teams group. We will be discussing the responsibilities of the Executive
Council Members and fundraising opportunities. We are looking forward to meeting
everyone and welcoming you to Hazleton Area High School!

E4E
E4E is an education and discussion group for LGBTQ+ youth and allies within the
high schools. If you are interested in joining, please contact Mrs. Smith via email at
smithc@hasdk12.org. Meetings will start in October.

FBLA
Attention Future Business Leaders of America!
Like Computers? Want to learn how to be successful? Want to make connections
with local business leaders? Join FBLA! Future Business Leaders of America, or
FBLA, is a national organization dedicated to promoting leadership and the pursuit
of business among students across the nation. The first meeting will be held

virtually via teams. Please visit our High School FBLA page

to our team (before October 9th) via the online form.

Mock Trial Club
Mock Trial will improve your speaking skills, increase your self-confidence, and
allow you to be part of the most fun group of students. Give Mock Trial a try!!!
There will be a teams meeting Oct 1st, at 2:30 pm.

Psychology Club
The first Psychology Club meeting of this year will take place on Wednesday
October 7th virtually through Microsoft Teams. Anyone interested in joining the
Psychology Club for this year please email Mr. McBride at mcbridec@hasdk12.org
by Wednesday October 7th so he can add you to the Team.

SADD Club
Please make sure to log in to TEAMS and read the announcements. Those students
that have expressed interest in running for office must answer the essay question.
The election of officers has been postponed to Friday October 2. The announcement
of the elected officers will be at the next SADD Club meeting which will be on
Monday October 5th.

Science Club
Science club will have a meeting this Friday Oct 2 at 2:30 pm. Join the science club
to learn about the stars in the sky and how do those cool demonstration work. We
are open to all students. Please contact mazurekg@hasdk12.org to join us this
Friday at 2:30 in teams.

Student Council
The next Student Council meeting will be held on Monday, October 5 at 7PM via
Teams. Election of officers will take place at this time. Any member who cannot
attend must notify Mr. Turri or Mrs. Bannon prior to the meeting to be excused.

Volleyball
The Hazleton Area Girls Volleyball team is selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts. $8 for
a regular dozen or $7 for a special dozen (6 chocolate iced, 6 raspberry filled, 6
lemon filled, or 6 Kreme filled). Orders and cash/checks made payable to HAHS
Volleyball Booster Club can be given to any volleyball team member/coach. Orders
and money are due October 8th. Doughnuts will be delivered October 13th

                                    Guidance

SAT TEST
Please be aware that the SAT test scheduled for October 3 at Hazleton
Area High School has been canceled.

Seniors: Now is the time to apply to college. Go onto your counselor’s webpage to
find college-related information and presentations. We also will announce virtual
college representative visits in the near future.

Seniors: FAFSA applications for financial aid opens on October 1st. You and a
parent/guardian will need a FSA ID beforehand. You will need your family’s 2019
W2 wage and tax statement to complete the application. Use the
link: studentaid.gov to create your account. FAFSA stands for Free Application for
Federal Student Aid. It determines a student's eligibility for need-based federal and
state financial aid for college, which may include grants, scholarships, work-study
and loans. If eligible, it can really help you pay for school! Link is available on the
guidance website.
Seniors: go to this website to register for free, live virtual college
presentations: www.pacac.org/virtual
You will hear from admission officers on what you need to know, gain important
college knowledge, choose from 300 different college presentations and information
sessions encompassing 34 states and 7 countries. Presentations start October
1st and end November 6th. You should participate live so you could ask questions
and interact with the admission counselors. If you are unable to attend live, still
register for the sessions, since recordings will be available. Link is available on the
guidance website.
Attention seniors: Colin Dempsey (Assistant director of admissions) from
Keystone College will be hosting a virtual college visit for Hazleton Area High
School seniors on October 8th at 10:00AM. Email Nina at currann@hasdk12.org for
the meeting's link/invite.

                                      Athletics
10/1-The Boys and Girls Golf Teams have qualified and will participate in the PIAA
District II Golf Championships today at Fox Hill CC. The bus will be at the VCC
Range at 6:30 AM for boarding then depart at 6:50 AM.

10/1-The Middle School Cross Country team (Freshman on team) will meet away
today at Hanover. The bus will depart from the high school at 2:45.

10/1-The Varsity Boys Soccer games schedule for today at Berwick has been
postponed to a date yet to be determined.

***The NEPA Scholastic Hockey League is accepting new players for the 20-21
season which begins on November 1. Students grades 7-12 who attend any school

district, private school, charter or home school are eligible to join. Prior experience
is not needed. All teams and league are co-ed. Please contact Barry Noss,

Club de Libros-Cualquier estudiante interesado enunirse al Club de Libros debe
enviar un correo electrónico al Sr. Hampton (hamptonb@hasdk12.org) a más tardar

de los equipos. Las reuniones se llevarán a realizar mensualmente, y se anima a los

Club de Psicología
La primera reunión del Club de Psicología de este año tendrá lugar el miércoles 7 de

Club de Ciencias

Voleibol
El equipo de voleibol de chicas del área de Hazleton está vendiendo rosquillas
Krispy Kreme. $8 por una docena regular o $7 por una docena especial (6 helados de
chocolate, 6 rellenos de frambuesa, 6 rellenos de limón o 6 Kreme rellenos). Los
pedidos y efectivo/cheques que se paguen a HAHS Volleyball Booster Club se
pueden dar a cualquier miembro/entrenador del equipo de voleibol. Los pedidos y el
dinero vencen el 8 de octubre. Las rosquillas se entregarán el 13de octubre

PRUEBA SAT
