We host Northview at 6:00 and 7:30 and will honor our seniors between the two games. Please come out and congratulate these student-athletes on this important night! Hey Raiders! Student Council needs your help! Each year, Student Council tries their best to do a lot for the school like pep rallies, homecoming, spirit weeks, and so much more! But to always make sure we can fully support students and teachers, we are asking you to come out and support Student Council at the Chipotle on Windward Parkway on Monday, February 3rd from 4pm-8pm! Come out with your family or some friends, grab some tacos or a
burrito and kick back for a bit! It’s a chance to just relax AND support Student Council! We appreciate everything you do for Raider Nation! Yearbook The proud, the few, the yearbook staff wants you! All stickers will be distributed by Mr. Bolin before or after school or during 4A or 4B in Mr. Bolin’s room, 1703 today and tomorrow. If you have any questions or need the required off campus waiver and contract, please email Mr. Bolin or visit the school website. Lit Mag Do you enjoy writing creatively? Are you interested in a career in news, the media, or journalism? Do you enjoy marketing and sales? Join The Meridian News and Literary Magazine staff for the 2020 - 2021 school year! Applications are currently available in room 2216, and the due date is 1/24/20. Interviews will begin the following week (1/27 - 1/31). ATTENTION ELECTIVE TEACHERS! This week, Mr. Misner's students will be producing 30 second commercials for your classes and programs. The idea is to help you market your courses for our students. Please email Mr. Misner this morning if you are interested in helping market your program. Students, look for these adds on the Morning Show and on our Instagram pages. This is a first come first served basis. -TAG Internship Attention sophomores and juniors who are in the TAG program: If you are interested in a TAG Internship during the 2020-2021 school year, please come to room 3323 today and sign up for the prerequisite Hire Me! Skills for Career and Internship Success TAG seminar. The seminar is held during Anchor Time and is a required for electing TAG Internship as a class. Space is limited so please come early. AHS Scores Alpharetta High School is proud of its 99.5 CCRPI score, along with a 5 STAR CLIMATE RATING. Recycling for classrooms will be collected Monday through Thursday. Please have your recycling bins outside your door before 0845 hrs • Monday (UPPER LEVEL) • Tuesday (Fine Arts / gym) • Wednesday (MAIN LEVEL) • Thursday (LOWER LEVEL) Teams Students, for various reasons, your counseling department and PTSA will no longer be able to use the Remind messaging system to communicate with you and your parents. Instead, they will be using Microsoft Teams through which important information, such as counseling events, graduation information, and senior events will be conveyed to you and your parents. If you have not already, please register ASAP so you don’t miss any messages; this is especially important for students who are often off campus. The School Store is open Tuesdays and Thursdays on Tuesdays and Thursdays (Anchor Time Days) in the mornings from 7:40am – 8:10am. There are a variety of items that you can purchase including spirit wear, school supplies, and electronics. Currently, we accept both cash and check (made payable to Alpharetta High School). So, go down to the cafeteria, follow the posters and signs until you reach the School Store. Once you get there, stop in, check it out and make some purchases to benefit Alpharetta High School. If you have any suggestions or questions, please let any Student Council member know! Devises Going forward, devices will only be distributed on Tuesdays and Thursdays – before school and during both lunches. You will need student and parent signed Device User Agreements, 100% on Digital Citizenship Quiz, and not to owe any device fines. AP Exams All students who are taking an AP course must enroll using the join codes provided by your teachers. This is required for the course. Your teachers should have already shared this information with you. If you have 3
questions or difficulty completing the enrollment, please check with your classroom teacher. If you are taking an online AP course this information will be sent to you. Front Lobby Students, when waiting in the front lobby to be picked up, for your class to begin or any other reason, please do not open the door for anyone that does not have a Fulton County Schools badge. If necessary, find an Alpharetta High School staff member to assist. Thank you for your help in keeping our school safe for everyone. ATHLETICS Wrestling The Wrestling team participated in the Regional Duals on Saturday and placed 6th overall. There were some outstanding performances by Trey Childress, Christian Sierra, Kylen Crosby, Dillon Horton, Jack Fiorillo and Jordan Leslie. The wrestling team has a home meet this Wednesday against Northview and North Atlanta. JV matches start at 5:15. Varsity match with North Atlanta at 6pm and match with Northview will start at 7:30pm. This will also be senior night for our wrestling team we want everyone to come out and cheer on our Raider Wrestling Team this Wednesday night. Basketball Congratulations to the 9th grade boys basketball team on their win on Friday. Congratulations to the boys team on their 65-42 win over Dunwoody. Jayden Stephens led with 26 and Josh Spencer has 11. Please come out in support Friday vs Northview at home!! Lady Raiders The Lady Raiders basketball team picked up a big win at Cambridge on Tuesday night, 60 to 52. The Lady Raiders were led by Jodi Goins 28 points with Njeri Lewis scoring 15. Solid contributions were made by the entire team. The girls are 8-1 in Region play, tied for first, and are back home on Friday vs Dunwoody. Come cheer on your Lady Raiders basketball team! Wrestling The Wrestling team participated in two wrestling tournaments over the break. On 23 December the wrestling team participated in the Denmark Tournament with Davis White placing first in his weight class, Trey Childress placing 3rd and Jack Fiorillo placing 3rd. The wrestling team also participated in the Fulton County Wrestling Championships this past weekend with James Thierer and Shawn Jackson both placing 2nd and Trey Childress and Jordan Leslie both placing 4th. The wrestling team will be competing at Cambridge High School on Wednesday and wrestling in the team area duals this Friday and Saturday at Pope High School. JV Basketball Congratulations to our 9th grade and JV boys on their wins over Chattahoochee Saturday!! Our varsity had a great fight but lost in double overtime. Please come out Friday night and support us as we take on Dunwoody!!! 4
Women’s Soccer Women's Soccer: Conditioning is starting today through Thursday, from 4-5 on the turf. Try-outs start Monday the 13th! Get excited Alpharetta! CLUBS and ACTIVITIES Debate The Debate team travelled to Samford University over the weekend and brought home two more championships. In the Varsity division, the team of Suchetas Bokil and Jordan Di won the tournament. They were also first and second place individual speakers at the tournament. The team of Hargunn Sandhu and Pratham Saurabh also finished in the top 10. In the Freshman division, the team of Anish Nayak and Sameer Jivangikar won the title. The teams of Eshan Momin with Viswas Sreenathan and Siddhant Danave with Anish Kapoor also finished in the top 5. Anish Nayak was the tournament’s top individual speaker. Sameer and Viswas also earned individual speaker awards. Great job by the entire squad this weekend. Yearbook The proud, the few, the yearbook staff wants you! For Information please email Mrs. Viafora viafora@fultonschools.org COUNSELING National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists Congratulations to Zachary Plimpton, Vivia Lung, Dara Karadsheh, Kaci Xie, Olivia Colburn, Nikhil Jaganathan, Kevin Zhao, Harika Kosaraju, Madhura Gangal, Abhayasimha Sastry, Varun Kasibhatla, Palin Bhardwaj, Priya Joshi and Suchetas Bokil our National Merit Scholarship Corporation semi-finalist These individuals are one of approximately 16,000 high school seniors who are Semifinalists, and have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships to be offered next spring. Congratulations again, and good luck to these students. 5
