A.S.B Appointed Position Information 11-12 Business & Activities Office La Serna High School Whittier Union High School District Dear ASB Candidates and Parents: Congratulations! Your child has expressed an interest in running for an ASB Office for the 2011-2012 school year. This information packet has been prepared to help you and your child become acquainted with the eligibility requirements, application process, expectations, key important dates and financial responsibilities associated with being an ASB officer. Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible to run for and serve as an ASB Officer, the following must currently apply to you: You must maintain a grade point average of at least 2.6 at each grading period. You must not receive more than 2 “N”s and no “U”s as a citizenship mark in any grading period. Your attendance record must be at 90% or higher during each grading period and remain at that level throughout your term of office. Application Process: You must do the following to apply for an ASB office: Attend the mandatory parent meeting on April 20th @ 6PM in the Library. Sign and return election rules and regulation form. Write and submit a Letter of Intent. Complete the ASB Election Petition Sheet. Successfully pass a grade check. Complete interview process. Expectations: ASB is NOT an easy class nor an easy “A”! As a member of the ASB Cabinet, you: Are a role model. Are a servant-leader to your fellow students. Are required to attend many activities which will demand your time. Are total-school minded from the beginning to end of the school year. Maintain goods grades, a high attendance record and exhibit exceptional conduct. If you are elected to an ASB position, you must enroll in the Student Government class. Additionally, ASB may not be taken on independent study. Please be aware that you may have to give up another class, which may mean not enrolling in a particular A.P. or Honors class that may conflict with Student Government on the master schedule. Furthermore, you will be required to attend a MANDATORY three day orientation/planning retreat, which is scheduled for Thursday, July 28nd through Saturday, July 30th (10th —12th graders only) This time together allows for the ASB Cabinet to begin team building and planning for the upcoming school year. Following this retreat, each ASB officer will be required to work one week in the Activities Office during the summer as well as to work various shifts during verification week in August.
Financial Responsibilities for NEW ASB Members: There is a $400.00 fee for the following: (Hardship appeals will be considered on an individual basis.) One ASB specialty shirt CADA Conference One sweater Dance Picture packages ASB Card Summer Planning Retreat ASB Jersey Lock, Lanyard and numerous T-shirts Financial Responsibilities for RETURNING ASB Members: There is a $300.00 fee for the following: (Hardship appeals will be considered on an individual basis.) One ASB specialty shirt CADA Conference Dance Picture packages Summer Planning Retreat ASB Card Lock, Lanyard and numerous T-shirts Payment Schedule 1st payment of $200.00 is due Thursday, July 28, 2011. ($150 for returning ASB Members) 2nd payment of $200.00 is due Friday, November 18, 2011 ($150 for returning ASB Members) *** Can be paid all at once after July 1, 2011 if desired. Being a member of the ASB Cabinet can be a most rewarding experience for students. You will have many opportunities to express your creativity, opinions and help shape the 2011-2012 school year for all students, faculty and staff. You will get back what you put in. A.S.B Appointed Position Information 11-12 Business & Activities Office La Serna High School Whittier Union High School District STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASB Cabinet ASB, which stands for Associated Student Body, refers to the entire student body. The Cabinet works together to plan for and continually improve the activity program. The Cabinet, under the direction of the Assistant Principal and Activities Director works to be responsive to the interest and needs of the school. The Cabinet plans the school wide activities such as dances, lunchtime activities, assemblies, rallies, and the master calendar. The Appointed Cabinet offices and duties are as follows: 1. Board of Trustees, PTSA & Student Site Council Representative shall (appointed position): Attend District Board meetings as appointed by the WUHSD Superintendent, will attend meetings representing La Serna High School as a member of the District Superintendent’s Student Cabinet, attend all La Serna PTSA & Site Council meetings. Other duties as assigned.. 2. Publicity Commissioners (appointed position) shall: Organize and serve as commissioner of the Publicity Committee, communicate by posters, skits, public address system, newspaper, electronic marquee, and daily bulletins for school activities and functions regarding ASB; regulate all club posters and campaign posters; assume other duties as assigned. 3. Spirit Commissioner (appointed position) shall: Encourage and maintain school spirit and support all athletic events, assist in organizing assemblies, lunch time activities, and assist the publicity commissioner with poster making that encompasses school spirit. 4. Cheer Liaison (appointed positions) shall: Act as a liaison between the ASB Cabinet and the Cheer & Song squads; coordinate plans between the two groups for pep rallies and other pep events, organize and serve as commissioner of the Pep Club, which shall serve as an organized cheering section at games. The Cheer Liaison must be a participant on the LSHS Varsity Cheer and/or Song team. 5. Inter-Club Chairman (appointed position) shall: Serve as Inter-Club Council President, coordinate and meet with all club presidents on a monthly basis, and serve as a liaison between clubs and the ASB Cabinet; assume other duties as assigned. 6. Expanded Horizons Liaison (appointed position) shall: Serve as a liaison between Expanded Horizons and the ASB Cabinet, in addition, he/she will assume other duties as assigned. Expanded Horizons Liaison must be a member of the Expanded Horizons. 7. Athletic Commissioner (appointed position) shall: Act as a liaison between the ASB Cabinet and the athletic teams; coordinate plans between the two groups for pep rallies & other pep events, organize flag raising ceremonies, athlete signing day, and assist with communicating varsity scores on the daily announcements. 8. Activities Tech. (appointed position) shall: Assist with assembly set-up, organize & operate sound for assemblies, pep rallies, extended lunch activities and additional ASB events., assist with daily announcements, flag raising ceremonies and all other special events; will assume other duties assigned. 9. Band Liaison (appointed positions) shall: Act as a liaison between the ASB Cabinet and the Band and Color Guard; coordinate plans between the two groups for pep rallies and other events, such as Flag Raising Ceremonies, athletic contests and rallies. The Band Liaison must be a participant in the LSHS Band.
