JANUARY 2022 A Fond Farewell By Mary Ann Drescher, President If you are at all familiar with Winnie the Pooh, you know of his exuberant friend, Tigger the Tiger. I’ve always appreciated not only the playfulness and enthusiasm Tigger brings to their adventures, but also his recognition that we never have to say goodbye; just Ta Ta For Now or TTFN! As I look back on my 26 years with Attic Angel, I am filled with such appreciation for the experiences I’ve had and the wonderful people I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know along the way. The volunteer leadership and staff Management Team are comprised of stellar people with such passion for the mission of the organization. I have learned SO much from every resident encounter; constant reinforcement that we all have so much to teach and to learn from each other. The Angels have created, preserved, and protected a culture of generosity, humility, and graciousness that makes our organization unparalleled in the State. The staff are drawn to this culture and nourish it with their dedication and passion for the residents served. I have never before worked in such a supportive and nurturing environment that allows one to be bold and creative within the guardrails of our mission. I am excited for the next chapter of my life and will forever cherish the joys of the A ttic A ngel Touch. I will forever support this organization in whatever capacity I can. I will not say goodbye, merely TTFN! Staying Connected to Spiritual Living While we continue to work at rebuilding our community in the face of the ongoing Covid- 19 pandemic, for many of us there remains a deep longing to connect to spiritual and religious life again. Attending a worship service over Zoom or on the computer just isn’t the same as being in worship with real people. Starting in January, we’ll be providing non-denominational, Christian worship on the second and fourth Wednesdays at 3:30pm in the Community Room, for all AAP residents. These services will continue to be led by Chaplain Kristin Rice with the great assistance of Angels as musicians and transportation help. We also know that communion is a very important piece of religious and spiritual life for many. Due to continued practices meant to keep everyone healthy and safe, we are at this time unable to have communion services for a large group of people. However, perhaps you have maintained connections to congregations in the wider community. Your pastors and priests, communion or Eucharistic ministers, are absolutely welcome and encouraged to come and visit you individually. Please reach out to your parish or congregation to let them know that you want a visit. They may not even know they are welcome to come and visit you! Chaplain Kristin is also available (Monday-Friday, 10:00am-4:30pm) for prayer and spiritual support, and can be reached at 662-8865. ATTIC ANGEL 1 COMMUNITY
Low Vision Reading Group is Back! By Linda Taylor, Angel Volunteer Once upon a time before Covid (and there really was such a time!) a group of residents met with an Angel every Tuesday morning to read and discuss the news. Started as a way for a few low-vision residents to hear more in-depth news stories than they could hear on television or radio, the group expanded and contracted over nearly 15 years. And now it’s coming back. We’ll start again on January 11 and meet the first four Tuesdays of every month at 10:30am in the Quiet Room. While the original target of the group was people with vision impairments, all are welcome. Drop in and check it out. Donate While You Shop Online shopping has increased significantly.
