23rd August 2020 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time -Year A Adult Rite of Christian Initiation RCIA Enquiry Nights Do you know someone who wants to know more about the Catholic Faith? Do you know anyone who has expressed an interest in becoming a Catholic? The Adult Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) is an opportunity for adults to learn more about what Catholic’s believe. It is the way through which adults are received into full communion with the Church at Easter. The first enquiry night for people wishing to know more about the Catholic Faith will be held on Wednesday 2 September at 7.30pm in the St Mary’s Centre. If you know of anyone who may be interested bring them along on 2 September. If you are unable to accompany them to the Enquiry night please let the Parish Office or one of the priests know and we will warmly welcome them. Welcome We warmly welcome Sister Helen O’Sullivan RNDM to Napier. She has been away from NZ for the past six years, first studying in Ireland, then working in Rome and London in the congregation’s international Mission Development Office. Sister Helen was in Dublin from 2018 where she was the administrator for Vocations, Ireland. She was part of a NET Ministries Team in Ireland visiting schools and giving retreats. Prior to travelling overseas Helen worked for the NZ Catholic Bishops Conference in their Office for Young People and also with Challenge 2000. Sister Helen’s passion is working with young people and helping them find their special place and purpose in God’s plan. Sister Helen will be involved in some pastoral work in the Parish over the next few weeks. We warmly welcome her to our Parish. Sunday Masses under Level 2 with restricted numbers The number of people allowed in our Churches for Mass is restricted to 100 under the Level 2 COVID-19 restrictions. The Diocese of Palmerston North has informed us that we are required to comply with the instructions from the Government. We need to implement social distancing of at least 2 meters between people unless those people are part of your ‘bubble’. This means we can only use every second pew in our Church buildings and then people sitting in the same pew would need to be 2 meters away from each. We are also required to record the names of every person at Mass for tracing purposes. It is not possible for us to celebrate Sunday Mass under these conditions. Reluctantly I have had to make the decision to cancel Sunday Masses while we remain in Level 2 restrictions. Weekday Masses will still be held at the usual times. Father Barry Scannell s.m. Parish Priest
