Welcome to TEKO Camp TEKO is located on more than 18 acres of beautiful shoreline property on the North Arm Bay of Lake Minnetonka. For over 50 years, Temple Israel has provided a safe, educational, and fun Jewish camping experience for children. Camp TEKO is ACA accredited and offers day camp programs for children who are entering kindergarten through sixth grade. At Camp TEKO, campers gain independence, confidence, and friendships that will last a lifetime. We are excited for you to join us for a great summer at TEKO! A Day at Camp Campers will arrive at TEKO in the morning, greeted by friendly and enthusiastic staff who will ensure campers are welcomed from the moment they arrive. Throughout the day, campers will go with their groups to different chugim (activities), ensuring that they are able to experience all that TEKO has to offer. Camp TEKO is a place to have a fulfilling experience bonding with friends, develop new skills, explore Jewish identity, and engage in outdoor activities. We offer a variety of activities ranging from schiya (swimming) and sirot (boating) to omanut (arts & crafts), muzikah (music), Tarbut Yisrael (Israeli culture), sports, and much more. Our facilities include a swimming beach, boating area, a sport court, a pavilion, and plenty of grassy areas to run around and play. Campers will bring home projects from omanut, learn new songs in muzikah, become more independent, and of course enjoy their time outside on beautiful Lake Minnetonka.
COVID Preparedness Due to safety regulations regarding COVID-19, Summer 2021 will be different than summers before. Capacity will be limited and all campers and staff will remain in cohorts while social distancing, wearing masks and taking extra precautions by washing and sanitizing hands. Our facilities team will proactively support an environment of risk mitigation through appropriate cleaning and sanitizing. If we are able to predict weather that will prevent us from being outdoors for a significant portion of the day, we will move our programming online. Families will be made aware of any change by Transportation 6:30 a.m. We will not be providing transportation this summer; adults will drop off and pick up campers each day at Camp TEKO. Drop off will take place between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. Pick up will take place between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.
Inclusion TEKO is a home for diverse Jewish backgrounds and experiences, learning styles and special needs, and gender and gender expressions; people of color; LGBTQ people; and interfaith families. Please inform us during the registration process of anything we should know to maximize the experience of your camper(s), including any special needs they have. OSRUI Partnership Our OSRUI partnership program offers campers entering 2nd through 4th grade the opportunity to spend time at Camp TEKO’s Aleph, Bet, or Gimel day camp and then venture off to the Reform Movement’s overnight camp OSRUI (Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute) in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin for their five-day Atid experience from August 11 to 15. All 2nd through 4th grade campers registered for Aleph, Bet, or Gimel are eligible for $100 off their OSRUI Atid registration.
Working at Camp TEKO Camp TEKO staff members are carefully selected individuals who are entering 12th grade or beyond. Prior to the summer, staff members are trained in child development, safety procedures, group dynamics, programming, and more. Each year, experienced staff, many of whom are former TEKO campers, return to work at camp. They are eager to provide a new generation of children with the same great Jewish camping experience that they had. We are proud of our counselors' dedication to TEKO. They foster a secure and fun environment where children are able to feel happy and go out of their comfort zones.
