P R O G R A M OV E RV I E W & T H E M E The Cam Newton Foundation (CNF) G OA L S recognizes the value of starting young, After completing the Un1ted As 1 program, equipping youth with tools for working as a participants will be exposed to: team and embracing diversity. LATE NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2018 K I C KO F F & O R I E N TAT I O N The kickoff and orientation will be a “getting to know you” session featuring Cam Newton and designed to get participants excited and committed to participation in the program. Parents/ guardians will also be invited to attend. Based on Cam’s schedule, the kickoff event will be held in Charlotte, and the Atlanta participants will be conferenced in via TBD technology. PROGRAM SESSION 1 | JANUARY 2019 SCHEDULE E X P LO R I N G 1 ’ S S E L F & E X P LO R I N G 1 A N OT H E R – I ’ M U N 1 Q U E LY M E , YO U ’ R E U N 1 Q U E LY YO U This opening session will focus on identity and celebrating your uniqueness, as well as similarities with others. Through interactive activities, participants will learn who they are culturally and understand the definition of culture. They will explore the lens through which they see the world and other people and the implications. Additionally, participants will explore differences between themselves and others, culturally speaking, and learn to celebrate the diversity of their peers. 3
SESSION 2 | FEBRUARY 2019 1NFLUENCERS & 1NFLUENCING This session will focus on the concept of popular culture and its impact. Participants will explore Critical Consumption and what it means to be a critical consumer of media and the power of asking “why?” to make sound decisions about their engagement with popular culture. Additionally, students will explore how the relationship between media, popular culture and the influence in their daily lives impact decision-making and use of time. SESSION 3 | MARCH 2019 PROGRAM AC T 1 N G A S 1 The third session will be focused on SCHEDULE putting it all together and practicing working through differences being a change agent in the community. During this day, participants will work through a method of problem- solving and idea-sharing amongst differences, explore community problems and how they can use their voices to affect change together. SESSION 4 | APRIL 2019 CHANG1NG THE WORLD Participants will learn to create a plan and develop a storyboard that will become their “capstone project.” They will develop goals and set a vision and plan for the future state they see for themselves and the world. 4
