Participation Respect Inquiry Diversity Environment INFORMATION ABOUT YEAR 10 COURSES IN 2021 All students will study a course of English, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education and Social Studies. All students study three other subjects of their choice. All students complete some Health Education and Future Planning programmes during the year. GENERAL GUIDANCE ON COURSE SELECTION Choose subjects you enjoy, and in which you are prepared to work hard. Keep a balance of subjects. If you have a particular career in mind check with Mrs Beagley, the careers advisor, whether there are compulsory subjects and that you are choosing the most appropriate course. Plan your course selection through Years 11, 12 and 13 making sure you choose pre-requisite subjects in Year 10. (Use the overall plan on page 8 of the booklet). If you wish to study Japanese, Māori or Music at higher levels, you must study them at Year 10. All other subjects can be studied at higher levels without studying them in Year 10 – although it makes things easier if you do. Read this booklet carefully, taking note of which skills you will be learning and what you will be studying the suggested prerequisites course costs or special equipment required - this is in addition to normal stationery costs which Year 11, 12 and 13 courses the subject leads to [see page 8] Discuss your proposed course with your parents/caregivers this year’s teachers the contact person named in the course information in this book Mrs Beagley, the Careers Advisor your Dean your Whānau teacher The above staff are happy to talk with your parents as well. Participation Respect Inquiry Diversity Environment Course Planning 2021 Compulsory Subjects English Mathematics Science Social Studies Physical Education Health/Careers The tables below show the option choices available for Year 10 students in 2021. Students will be selecting their subjects for 2021 via the Edge student portal https://student.musac.school.nz/. This is to be done by Friday 21 August 2020. Students are also required to hand in their Course Planning Sheet, signed by parents/caregivers to their Whānau Teacher by Friday 21 August 2020. On the form students are to write two alternative subjects they wish to study if a subject is oversubscribed or unable to be offered due to low numbers. Students choose three different options. BUSINESS STUDIES DESIGN AND VISUAL [10BUS] COMMUNICATION Business Studies offers a wide business based [10DVC] overview which helps students develop world and local views with respect to business issues.
