Lake Educational Support Services Center Granite City Community Unit School District #9 Health and Wellness Overview Lake Educational Support Services Center is committed to the health and safety of students, staff and their families. This important factor was continuously reviewed throughout the development of this Return to In- Person Learning Plan. Lake ESSC’s plan provides information and guidelines for all students, staff and parents to follow as we begin in-person instruction. To ensure the health and wellbeing of all, everyone must adhere to the guidelines and report any safety concerns or issues to the office. Building administration is continuously reviewing pertinent health and safety information as it relates to the buildings Return to In-Person Leaning Plan. Updates regarding our social distancing requirements, face coverings, hand hygiene procedures, daily maintenance procedures, and the specific guidance for a symptomatic staff member, student, or visitor in our building will come directly from health experts. Any adjustment to our plan will be in accordance with CDC (Center for Disease Control), IDPH (Illinois Department of Public Health), MCHD (Madison County Health Department), ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education), and the Governor’s Office. www.cdc.gov www.dph.illinois.gov www.co.madison.il.us www.isbe.net www2.illinois.gov Student Health Certification Instructions for Student Self-Certification: Student Health Certification will be done via Skyward: • Guardians must screen their child(ren) daily for COVID-19 symptoms. Students without a cell phone will be provided a lanyard for parents to initial each day. • Students will not be allowed to report to the classroom until the Self-Certification has been completed. • The nurse will determine if a student needs to be placed in the designated quarantine area while waiting to be picked up by a guardian. Lake Educational Support Services Center Granite City Community Unit School District #9 and guardians will be notified to pick their child up as soon as possible. Students returning to school following a COVID-19 case • 10-day isolation at home with remote learning; or • A medical doctor’s note (written documentation) stating the diagnosis to explain the symptoms; or • Proof (written documentation) of a negative COVID-19 test (that was obtained within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms). ***If your child is sent home from school with symptoms of COVID-19, the rest of the household must be quarantined. Siblings in your child’s school, or other GCSD9 schools, will also need to be picked up from school as quickly as possible. Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 and Close Contacts If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19 at school or in your child(ren)’s classroom, the health services staff will work closely with the Madison County Health Department (MCHD) to determine which individuals are considered “close contacts” to that positive person. Close contacts will be identified through contact tracing, a public health measure used to stop the spread of the virus. Your cooperation is appreciated. Confidentiality will be preserved as required by law. Close contacts are defined as any individual who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes (cumulative) with or without a mask started from 2 days before the onset of illness onset and until the time the person is isolate. You will be notified if your child is ever considered a close contact to a positive COVID-19 case. Close contacts are required to quarantine in their home and utilize remote learning for 14 days, per IDPH and MCHD guidelines, from the date of the last exposure to the positive person. If your child is in contact with someone outside of school who tested positive for COVID-19, or is a family member of a suspected case of COVID-19, please notify your school nurse. At that time your child will need to stay at home for 14 days after the date of last contact with that positive person. They will receive remote learning during this time. Learning Instruction Models Option 1: Continued Remote Learning All students entered the 2020-2021 school year in a remote learning model. Lake ESSC students have had the ability to become comfortable and familiar with utilizing the appropriate technology platforms, Google Classroom and Google Meets, to communicate, learn, and complete assignments with their teachers and support staff. A family that chooses Remote Learning when in person instruction is being offered, must make that determination for their child(ren) for the remainder of the first quarter of the 2020-2021 Spring semester. These students will be placed on their teacher of record’s roster as they were during the 2020-2021 Fall semester. Students will continue to follow the remote learning expectations set forth during the 2020-2021 Fall semester in order to be counted as present and earn grades. Lake School | 3201 East 23rd Street | GRANITE CITY, ILLINOIS 62040 PHONE NUMBER: 618-452-7864| WEBSITE: www.gcsd9.net
Lake Educational Support Services Center Granite City Community Unit School District #9 Depending on IDPH, MCHD, ISBE guidelines and staffing availability, an option to return to in-person may be offered at the fourth quarter (March 15, 2021). Students will continue to access instruction and curriculum via remote learning through their teachers’ Google Classroom. Remote students will be able to access synchronous and asynchronous learning via their Google Classroom. All attendance, grading, and assignment completion requirements for those families choosing the remote learning model will continue to be the same as the Fall semester of 2020-2021. Option 2: Hybrid Learning Model Lake ESSC has developed a blended learning model which places student and staff safety as a priority. The intent of the blended model is to allow students in-person learning while maintaining CDC and IDPH guidelines for social distancing through a reduced number of students in each building. By reducing student numbers in combination with appropriate social distancing and appropriate face covering requirements, we will have the best opportunity for successful in-person learning. Face coverings for all students and staff will be a requirement at all times as specified by the Phase 4 Guidelines outlined by the Governor of Illinois. Classrooms will be cleaned and disinfected daily. Emphasis will be placed on high touch surfaces and common areas. Students will be assigned 4 in-person days of instruction with Friday serving as their remote day of instruction. Grading The GCSD 9 traditional grading policy will be used for both remote and hybrid learning. Students will be expected to complete all assignments, assessments, and projects in a timely manner. All assignments will be graded when appropriate and students will be provided with feedback on each graded assignment. The district has provided teachers and students with the appropriate resources to complete assignments. District communication policies regarding student progress will continue to follow the District’s grading calendar. Attendance During hybrid and remote learning, attendance will be taken daily and hourly for each class period. Teachers will take attendance via Google Classroom. Students will complete the “attendance question” for each appropriate class. Students will be familiar with this option as this is how attendance was taken during the full remote period to start the 2020-2021 school year. Technology Expectations for Remote or Hybrid Options A device and web access will be required for both hybrid and all remote learning options. The district has provided a Chromebook to every Lake ESSC student, with the exception of those who chose to use their own device during the Fall semester of 2020-2021. Parents will need to maintain this device and web access in their homes for student access to lessons, personalized learning, and assignment retrieval. In the event of a COVID-19 related closure for all students, Google Classroom and Google Meets will continue to be the method for instructional delivery. Anyone experiencing connectivity issues should contact the school to discuss with the office staff.
