Self Evaluation 2020 Given the COVID-19 pandemic it has been extremely difficult to meet 2020 targets however Balwyn High School has continued to strive for high quality outcomes albeit in a Remote Learning environment. Enter your reflective comments The completion of the Senior School precinct and refurbishment of A Wing has now provided first class facilities for teaching and learning, our International Student Program and Staff Professional Learning. The Leadership Team committed to supporting staff and instructional practice through: • Targeted PD for both asynchronous and synchronous learning as experienced in Terms 2 and 3 • PLT focus on staff wellbeing and embedding strategies to support student wellbeing and to track learner progress • Continuous examples of exemplary practices shared through Special Pedagogy Editions of the Principal Team Notices and other communications • The mentoring of staff by Leading Teachers and Learning Specialists • Weekly meetings enabling collaboration for team planning, curriculum design and assessments • Continued mentoring of aspirant staff through LDG program which has resulted in a range of staff taking up leadership responsibilities for the first time in 2021 Student Services and Subschool teams continued to support students and families through regular communications and meetings. A suite of wellbeing strategies, online presentations and lesson plans supported students. We are extremely proud of our commitment to community throughout the year by continuing our General Assemblies, Vision and Values Evening, Graduation Evening, Student Committee and Student Services Key Events (amongst others) and the Lion Newsletter. The community stayed connected and safe. Considerations for 2021 • Successful transition from COVID 2020 to 2021 for all students and staff Transitions between Remote and Onsite Learning to be seamless Innovative programs in building staff capacity as envisioned in the Staff Professional Learning Suite • Significant focus on Leadership Wellbeing through professional and cooperative learning program delivered by UOM Organisational Psychologist, Paige Williams • Continued improvement in NAPLAN Relative Growth (Years 7-9) across all domains including achievement in the top 2 Bands in Literacy and Numeracy • Increased focus on careers education across Years 7-10 to inform student choice and engagement Effective implementation of the Middle School Assessment and Reporting Policy • Effective implementation of DET's Tutoring Program to target and track student growth and progress • Building of shared understanding across teaching teams of student progress along the Victorian Curriculum developmental continuum and implementing agreed moderation processes to support this Building leadership capacity of newly appointed leaders and aspirants Balwyn High School (7550) - 2021 - AIP - Self Evaluation Summary Page 2
