WPPS CHOIR I am pleased to announce the formation of the WPPS choir that is open to students from Grades 3 to 6. Students have been building their repertoire during lunchtime rehearsals with songs such as ‘With or without you’ by the band U2 and ‘I won’t let you go’ written by James Morrison. The students will also be given the opportunity to rewrite the school’s song in the coming weeks. For the first time at WPPS, the choir will now be performing with a band consisting of other students. The band members are practising on new music equipment that was purchased in Term 1. The WPPS band now has: an electronic drum kit, 2 bass guitars, 3 electric guitars And 2 keyboards. The students have been working tirelessly to perfect their parts and the results have been nothing short of amazing! Currently, I am looking to organise a performance in Term 4 at the Wyndham Community Centre located next to the school to give the students an opportunity to perform in front of an audience. Finally, I just wanted to extend my gratitude to the students and the parents who assisted their children with the last Remote Learning tasks for Performing Arts. I received some outstanding responses to the set tasks from all year levels at WPPS. Mr. Adam Sbriglio
• LOVE YOUR LOCALS • Our Love Your Locals Team for 2021 is NgaloAfe, Demi, Kamran, Ellouise, Yasmin, Saamir, Ella, Peppe, Darmi and Saynay. They have been meeting in their break times, learning about endangered species and habitats. • Last week Bruce from Nature West met with the students to talk about creating a native garden habitat in our school playground, behind the yellow building. The plan would be to eventually revegetate the site to a native habitat area based on planting indigenous species of grasses, flowering herbs, shrubs, and a limited number of shorter trees. This would provide shelter for birds, insects and frogs. The first step would be to engage a local landscaper who specialises in designing this style of garden, to draw up a master plan of the site. This would include a planting plan, as well as the inclusion of other components such as a frog bog, native bee hotels and possibly a dry-stone creek. It would also be advisable to provide at some stage a three-metre radius “yarning circle”, made of logs and stones, which would be used to conduct nature lessons during the year. We took our ideas to the School Council who approved the plan . •

PEACE & PROSPERITY KITCHEN GARDEN PROGRAM GOVERNMENT HOUSE VISIT We were very privileged to visit Government House and meet the Governor Linda Dessau as a part of the Peace and Prosperity Kitchen Garden Program. This program works in conjunction with Community Hubs Australia, to welcome women from refugee and migrant backgrounds to participate in a weekly program in the Government House Kitchen Garden. The Program aims to assist the women in making connections with others in their local communities in forming friendships and support networks. We toured the State Apartments and the gardens, made kokedamas, and shared a picnic lunch in the Government House gardens. Louise - WPPS Community Hub Coordinator
