Living and praying through loss and change 14 January 2021 10am-4pm Susan Collier We all face times of loss and change in our lives – and perhaps now more than ever. We can struggle to find God in such times whether in the past or present. The day will contain some input, some time for personal reflection and the opportunity to share with others if wished. £25 including lunch & refreshments Individually Guided Retreat 4pm 17 January – 10am 21 January 2021 Susan Collier, Geraldine Casswell, Andrew De Smet & Lynn Grove Although private retreats can happen any time of the year at Wydale, we WELCOME have included this dedicated space in the programme where individuals may come, receive guidance from an experienced spiritual director and meet with God in the stillness. Welcome to the Wydale programme for the first part of 2021. What a challenge 2020 has been for those of us who love to plan – and £289 including full board as we write, we are anticipating possible further disruption to our neatly ordered lives! Rhythm of Prayer 1 4pm 19 February – 3pm 21 February 2021 However, we wanted to provide a programme of events that will take place, contingent on the Hall being open. Come and learn about a few of Shakespeare’s greatest works and the Bible. It might be a memory, a poem, a prayer, a day-dream, a premise for some fiction, or the start of it: it could be something totally unexpected. £25 including lunch and refreshments 4 5
Owning our Heritage 13 April 2021 10am-4pm Hannah Madin What is in our DNA as a church family? What are the characteristics of the early Church as we see it in the Acts of the Apostles that we share now? This day will allow time to reflect on and discuss the enduring aspects of being Church that mean we truly are ‘one holy catholic and apostolic church’ and what are the characteristics which are distinctly tradition? £25 including lunch and refreshments Art & Spirituality 20 April 2021 Andrew De Smet and Jane Kitching Holy Week retreat 4pm 30 March – 4pm 2 April 2021 An opportunity to spend a day using creativity Joan Sargent and colour as a focus for prayer and devotion. No experience or particular talent required. Lewis’s books have charmed generations and been a window into Graham Cray Christian understanding, the stories resonating something of a human response to God through fantasy and characterisation. Come and explore ’The Ascension is, for many, the least understood part of our Lord’s your place in the story and how these familiar well-loved characters can ministry. It is far more than a way of getting Jesus off the earth - ‘exit speak to us and of our relationship with God. Jesus stage up! Shaping the Post-Covid Church 15 June 2021 9:45am-4:30pm £25 including lunch and refreshments Graham Cray What are the realities and possibilities of being Church in a world with Nearer to God in the Garden Covid-19? Taking on the experiences we’ve had from 2020 in the context 18 May 2021 10am-4pm of an understanding of what Church is, this study day is designed for Sue Billett and Ailsa Beech those in leadership roles in their parish or congregation. For many, being in the garden – either working or sitting – brings them £25 including lunch and refreshments closer to God. This day allows participants to explore this, with two people intimately familiar with the workings and weedings of the Wydale garden. There will be some formal input as well as opportunity to go out The Enneagram into the garden. WYDALE AND THE DIOCESE OF YORK Wydale Hall is not only owned by the Diocese of York, but is a part of its ministry to be Generous Churches, Making and Nurturing Disciples. As the Diocesan Retreat House, we have created our programme to provide opportunities for everyone - lay and ordained, in recognised positions or not - with the opportunity to explore ways of deepening their relationship with God. Our prayer is that each event will enrich the wider ministry of the Church as well as the individuals taking part. So as individuals and as churches, you are invited to participate in our programme as part of the way you are moving forward in God’s purpose for your life.
