December 1918 Sager’s Lake was a popular location year-round, but many enjoyed ice skating on the frozen lake during EVENTS the winter months most of all. “CHRISTMAS COME EARLY” Left | Specht-Finney Store Window | October 26, 1918 history This image of the main Specht-Finney Department Store window boasts the message, “Merry Xmas - Happy New Year,” but we know from a pencil notation that the image was taken on October 26, 1918, for placement in the souvenir box at the “new” federal post office (which now serves as Valparaiso City Hall).
