Adventure Morocco Imperial Cities Tour 18th - 28th October 2021 Morocco - magical, exotic, mysterious, sensuous, and dramatic - a land of extremes, from high mountain peaks to deserts, lush valleys, and Kasbahs. Morocco is homeland to a unique Jewish culture that was formed during the age of Islamic ascendancy and later flourished with the spread of European culture in the Middle East. Linked to the desert palm, “rooted in Africa, watered by Islam, and rustled by the winds of Europe,” Morocco combines African, Middle Eastern, and European influences to create a magical kingdom like no other. This trip will bring to life the history, tradition, and culture of Jewish Morocco - a fascinating place where East meets West.
Day 1 - Monday - OCT 18, 2021 Arrival in Casablanca Meeting in Casablanca Airport - group transport to the hotel. (See flight times further below) Accommodation: Barcelo Anfa, Casablanca (5* Hotel) Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, decorative gates inside Hassan II Mosque Day 2 - Tuesday - OCT 19, 2021 Welcome to Morocco, Casablanca & Marrakech Our meeting point is the Casablanca hotel, we will Welcome and gather the group in the hotel’s Lobby at an agreed time and start our tour. Casablanca is the Financial Capital and largest city of Morocco with a Jewish community of around 3,000 members - the largest Jewish community in the country. First, we visit the famous Hassan II Mosque, the biggest Mosque in Africa, where we have time to admire the architecture and the beauty of this impressive site. Then we visit the Jewish Museum before enjoying a typical Moroccan lunch in one of the local Kosher restaurants. After lunch we make our way to Marrakesh, where we stay for the next five nights. Day 3 - Wednesday - OCT 20, 2021 Essaouira Full Day Excursion to the town of Essaouira, an old fort and fishing port located within 2 hours’ drive from Marrakech and considered one of the most popular excursions out of the busy and bustling city. We will visit the Jewish Cemetery, the Ohel of Rabbi Pinto and the famous and still in use Synagogue of the city. We also have a chance to visit the Old Port and walk in the small streets of the Old City. On our way back to Marrakech we visit the village of Chichaoua to learn about the famous Moroccan Argan oil and visit a local Berbers market. A short visit to the famous Yves Saint Laurent Gardens in Marrakech will follow, there is the possibility to visit the museum on your own expense before dinner. Meals included: Breakfast and Lunch Accommodation: Barcelo Palmerie, Marrakesh (5* Hotel) Coastline and city walls of Essaouira, the Torah from Essaouira Synagogue Day 4 - Thursday - OCT 21, 2021 Oukaimden, Ourika Valley & Setti Fatma village After a wonderful Moroccan breakfast, our day begins with a 4x4 jeep tour visiting the station of Oukaimden, the highest ski resort in North Africa at 3200m above sea level. Then we continue to the Ourika Valley. Located at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, this is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved valleys in Morocco. We end the day with a hike in the beautiful waterfalls of Setti Fatma village before continuing back for dinner in Marrakech. Ourika valley landscape, local woman Day 5 - Friday - OCT 22, 2021 Marrakech Full Day and Kabalat Shabat Today we explore Marrakesh which is two cities in one. The distinctive Medina (Old City) consist of intertwining narrow passageways and charming shops, the Melah (former Jewish Quarter), Lazama Synagogue, remnants of Jewish communal buildings and Bahaia Palace. In contrast, Ville Nouvelle (New City) has a modern and cosmopolitan European flair. In the afternoon we will arrive at our hotel for our Shabbat Preparations. Before our typical Shabbat Dinner (in the home of the Haliwa Family) we enjoy a typical Kabbalat Shabbat in the beautiful Marrakech Synagogue. Day 6 - Shabbat - OCT 23, 2021 Marrakech, Jama El Fna Shabbat will be a day of relaxing, prayers, sleeping and eating, we will go for a walking tour of the city. Evening activities – After Havdalah we will visit the busy and Magical Square of “Jemma El Fna”- a unique experience that you will never forget. Meals included: Breakfast and Lunch Accommodation: Barcelo Palmerie, Marrakesh (5* Hotel) Jemma El Fna square, market stall at Jemma El Fna Day 7 - Sunday - OCT 24, 2021 Waterfalls of Ouzoud & Oasis of Bin el Quidan Leaving our hotel early morning, towards the Atlas Mountain region, we will visit the waterfalls of Ouzoud. This is a great spot for a short hike which will keep us busy until lunch time. Then continue to the Oasis of Bin el Ouidane Hidden in the heart of Berber territory in the Atlas Mountains. We will enjoy a boat ride on the lake and spend a luxurious night at the magnificent Hotel Widiane. Meals included: Breakfast and Dinner Accommodation: Widiane Suites & SPA Resort (5* Hotel) Day 8 - Monday - OCT 25, 2021 Meknez & Fez This morning we head north towards the magical city of Fez. On our way we visit the city of Meknez, the Moroccan imperial city is also known as "the Moroccan Versailles". The visit includes Bab El Mansour and the old synagogue of Meknez before we continue to our hotel in Fez for dinner. Meals included: Breakfast and Dinner Accommodation: Hotel Les Merinides, Fez (5* Hotel)
Bab El Mansour in Meknes, Blue Gate in Fez Day 9 - Tuesday - OCT 26, 2021 Fez Full Day Today will be devoted to the Jewish history of Fez. The golden ages of the Jewish community of Fez lasted from the 9th to 11th century. From a community of some 22,000 in 1947, there are less than 100 Jews today – but the city is rich in Jewish memories, Synagogues and a Jewish Cemetery. We visit the two Synagogues, the Mikveh and the magnificent Cemetery. In the afternoon we visit the neighbourhood where the old craftsmen quarter is still alive, the leather tanneries, the ceramic and the copper stamping art. We also visit the “Hina” market and the Clock house to learn of its connection to the Rambam. We will have some time to stroll and shop in the Medina and the Kasbah to enjoy the smells, colours and atmosphere. Day 10 - Wednesday - OCT 27, 2021 Volubilis & Rabat After breakfast we take a one hour drive to visit the archaeological sites of Volubilis and explore the hillside settlements of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, admiring second and third century Roman ruins at this amazing UNESCO site. Then we continue to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. Our first stop is the “Kasbah of Oudayas” before we visit the mausoleum of King Mohammed the V. In the late afternoon we journey back to Casablanca. In our final night together, we will enjoy a Gala Dinner prepared for us, at the Jewish Community Centre. Meals included: Breakfast and Gala Dinner (incl. wine) Accommodation: Barcelo Anfa, Casablanca (5* Hotel) Roman Ruins in Volubilis, view over Rabat from the river Day 11 - Thursday - OCT 28, 2021 Time to say goodbye - departure day After an early breakfast, we will have group transfer to Casablanca Airport in time for flight departure – Time to say goodbye to Morocco! TERMS & CONDITIONS – WINBERG TRAVEL Minimum number of participants A minimum number of full paying participants of 25 is required to confirm the offered price. Should the number of participants fall below this the trip will either be cancelled, or an additional fee will be charged. Deposit payment A deposit of SEK 5000 will be charged at the time of booking to confirm the reservation. Final payment Final payment shall be paid to Winberg Travel no later than 65 days before departure. Change conditions For changes after confirmed booking Winberg Travel will charge SEK 350 plus any additional cost charged by the supplier. Name changes are not possible and will result in the purchase of a new flight ticket with all costs covered by the participant. Therefore, it is vital that all personal details agree exactly with each participant’s passport, including all names in the same order and with the exact same spelling as in the passport. This is the responsibility of each participant. Cancellation conditions For cancellation of a confirmed booking the following charges apply: - Cancellations made 60 days before departure will be subject to a SEK 2200 cancellation charge. - Cancellations made between 59-35 days before departure will be subject to a 50% cancellation charge. - Cancellations made less than 34 days before departure will be subject to a 100% cancellation charge. Complaints Any complaints must be reported immediately to either Yaya Food & Travel or Winberg Travel. Travel Insurance All participants must have a comprehensive travel insurance that covers cancellation charges, medical bills, luggage, delays or other damage or loss that may occur to any participant however caused. Each individual participant is fully responsible for their own travel insurance. Winberg Travel can offer travel insurance with ERV and cancellation protection for the trip, which must be added before the deposit is paid on the trip. If you wish to purchase this, please contact us immediately and before the deposit payment is made.
Passport and travel documentation Each participant is fully responsible for their own passport and travel documentation, so please ensure that the passport is valid for the trip and if you have questions about visas or other travel documents then the country’s embassy will be able to assist. Vaccinations Each participant is fully responsible for any vaccinations that may be required for the trip. Winberg Travel are not allowed to provide any medical recommendation so please contact you care provider in plenty of time to discuss any requirements. It is also important, and the participants own responsibility, to keep up to date and check on any special requirements or restrictions such as tests or certificates in relation to Covid-19. Resmålsinformation Marocko • Avresa De flesta flygbolag stänger incheckningen 1 timme före flygets avgång. Vi rekommenderar att ni är på plats på flygplatsen minst 2 timmar innan avresa då det kan vara långa köer både vid incheckning och säkerhetskontroller. Märker ni att tiden börjar bli knapp är det mycket viktigt att ni kontaktar markpersonal omedelbart för att få hjälp. • Handbagage I handbagaget får man inte ha mer än totalt 1 liter vätska sammanlagt. Kräm, parfym, hårspray räknas också som vätska. Detta ska förvaras i behållare/burk med maxstorlek 1 dl som ska stoppas i en förslutningsbar plastpåse. Tänk på att om ni mellanlandar någonstans inom Europa är det inte tillåtet att medföra vätskor genom säkerhetskontrollerna. Detta gäller även sprit, vin, parfym och dylikt inhandlat i tax-free affärerna på flygplatsen. Dubbelkolla gärna med tax-free personalen. • El I Marocko är det 220 volt och man behöver ingen adapter till eluttaget. • Klädsel Marocko har behagliga temperaturer större delen av året även om det kan falla till 10 grader på natten vintertid och stiga till upp mot 40 grader i de centrala delarna under sommaren. Man klär sig bekvämt, män bör ha långbyxor med sig för middagar på restaurang och kvinnor bör undvika att visa för mycket former och hud. • Larm Larmnummer till polisen är 17 och till ambulans 15. • Mat Marocko är känt för sin mat – kryddor, färger och kulinariska upplevelser. Var försiktig med mat som legat framme länge. Sunt förnuft och gott omdöme är annars de bästa reskamraterna vad som gäller allmän säkerhet!
• Mobil-wifi Fungerar normalt. Många hotell erbjuder wi-fi, vissa tar ut en kostnad. För specifika kostnader, fråga din operatör. • Sjukvård Sjukvården håller i allmänhet ganska god standard i städerna i Marocko, dock är det varierande kvalitet och tillgång på bra sjukvård ute i landet. Se dock till att ha en bra reseförsäkring – sjukdom utomlands kan bli mycket kostsam. • Solen När denna är framme är det väldigt varmt. Skydda er med kläder, hatt, solkräm och drick mycket vatten, speciellt de första dagarna på plats. • Säkerhet Marocko är generellt sett ett relativt säkert land att besöka, var dock försiktigt med värdesaker och undvik att bära smycken och dyra klockor. • Tidsskillnad Marocko ligger en timme efter Sverige. • Trafiksäkerhet Marocko har högertrafik. Trafiken är mycket intensiv och det sker många olyckor och man bör vara försiktig när man korsar gator osv. • Taxfree på flygplatsen vid hemresan Här kan man inte betala med Dirhams om man köper alkohol och/eller cigaretter. Tillåts endast att betala med lokal valuta om man köper lokala varor. Lättare att betala med kort och ha spenderat alla Marockanska pengar innan man kommer in i avgångshallen. • Valuta i Marocko heter Dirham. Det kan vara lite svårt att växla till sig dirham här hemma men beställ gärna lite att ha med och sedan är det enkelt att växla från euro till dirham på plats. Det finns dock gott om bankomater i storstäderna. Kreditkort kan användas i ett begränsat antal affärer men på de flesta hotell. Det finns gott om bankomater och ta ut de kontanter ni behöver men var mycket försiktig med hanteringen av pengar. • Vaccination Ett bra grundskydd rekommenderas.
