HABITAT FOR HUMANITY WESTERN REGION CONFERENCE APRIL 26-28, 2023 Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, community and hope Habitat for Humanity partners with people in your community, and all over the world, to help them build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. The Western Region Conference is a biennial training experience organized and presented by the Habitat for Humanity Affiliate Support Organizations in California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington. Our organizations work alongside more than 100 Habitat for Humanity affiliates building and repairing homes across the western United States. We provide operational support, sustainable financial resources and disaster preparedness and recovery. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY WESTERN REGION CONFERENCE APRIL 26-28, 2023 Image description: Participants from the 2018 Western Region Conference Conference details On April 26-28, 2023, Habitat leaders from California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington and beyond will gather in at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Portland, Oregon for the Western Region Conference. Over the span of three days, we will zero in on how Habitat will engage our local communities to build more homes and evoke change in ourselves and in legislation advocating for equity in housing that is affordable. See page 4 for our exciting Keynote announcement! A final event schedule will be announced in the fall of 2022. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY WESTERN REGION CONFERENCE APRIL 26-28, 2023 Introducing Keynote Heather McGhee! Heather designs and promotes solutions to inequality in America. Over her career in public policy, Heather has crafted legislation, testified before Congress and helped shape presidential campaign platforms. Her book, “The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together,” spent 10 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and was longlisted for the National Book Award and Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction. Her 2020 TED talk, “Racism Has a Cost for Everyone,” reached 1 million views in just two months online. In the coming year, she will launch an original podcast on how to create cross-racial solidarity in challenging times. For nearly two decades, Heather helped build the non-partisan “think and do” tank Demos, serving four years as president. Through her regular media appearances, she elevates the concerns of working families on programs including NBC’s “Meet the Press.” She is the chair of the board of Color of Change, the country’s largest online racial justice organization, and volunteers for numerous other boards in the fields of philanthropy and social justice. Heather graduated from Yale University and the University of California Berkeley School of Law, and has honorary degrees from Muhlenberg College and Niagara University. She lives in Brooklyn with her urbanist husband, a 20-year-old cat and a chatty toddler.
