A BRIEF HISTORY OF ROCK THE HOUSE At Habitat for Humanity, we believe a safe and decent home is a rock solid foundation for a family, an opportunity on which they can build a better life. Better, affordable living conditions lead to improved health, stronger childhood development and the ability — and financial flexibility — to make forward-looking choices. In 2016, Rock the House - an Australian grassroots movement headed up by iconic musician Suze DeMarchi- was born. In 2017, volunteers returned to Yogyakarta, Indonesia – bringing the total to 18 family homes built by Rock the House volunteers. www.habitat.org.au | e: rockthehouse@habitat.org.au | t: 1800 88 55 99 3
ROCK the HOUSE III For the first time ever, Rock the House Three is going multi-national. From the 6th – 13th October 2018, join a team of like-minded Australians on the ground in both Yogyakarta, Indonesia and Siem Reap, Cambodia. Now in its third year, Rock the House is breaking new ground in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This Australian grassroots volunteering movement started in 2016 and has now built 18 homes for families in desperate need in Yogyakarta, Indonesia – and as the movement continues to grow, so does its impact. Join us as we open a second Rock the House location in 2018, and make a difference with your own two hands. In 2018, Rock the House is growing. Join us as we go global with this movement by not only returning where it all began in Yogyakarta, but also sending a team for the first time to Siem Reap, Cambodia. 30 homes for 30 families www.habitat.org.au | e: rockthehouse@habitat.org.au | t: 1800 88 55 99 4

STORIES FROM PAST ROCKERS Andrew gave up a week of his time last year to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity for Rock the House I. In 2017, he returned to Yogyakarta to help build another 6 homes – and brought along his wife and two friends for the journey! “I do a lot of woodwork myself and have always wanted to give back and volunteer. When Rock the House came about I decided to just go for it! Being able to put my experience to good use was very rewarding, and I will forever know that I have made a difference to someone who needed it. The week involves getting stuck in, no matter what your skill level, and working with your team mates and the families each day. Over the course of the week you can watch the progress of the house come together which helps keeps you motivated to finish what you started. It’s hard to describe but what you think you will get out of it is exactly how it feels at the end of the week and much more.” - Andrew Rozza is originally from New Zealand but lives in Karratha, Western Australia. Employed as a Security Officer, Rozza gave up a week of his time to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity for Rock the House I in 2016. “Some of the things we got up to on the build site were - well, most of all dancing! Being yourself, getting down and dirty alongside good mates, sharing a common goal with families in need, bringing joy into their lives. To work alongside them, sit with them and listen to their beautiful language was a wonderful experience. If you ask, ‘why should others volun- teer?’ It’s the Australian way. It’s the Australian spirit. Ever since our arrival over ten years ago, I have seen the Aussie spirit in action. There are so many stories and examples I can mention here suffice to say, the Aussie spirit is inspiring with a strong focus on helping others across diverse communities and countries like Indonesia. Volunteers out there, if you haven’t done it before, I recommend it to you. You will create a wonderful relationship with your team mates, together you will build a home and lifelong friendships with a beautiful family and get to really know their environment and cultural traditions. - Rozza www.habitat.org.au | e: rockthehouse@habitat.org.au | t: 1800 88 55 99 9
