International further training for school and kindergarten doctors The task of the school doctor in Waldorf education today 23–26 October 2021 In collaboration with the Association of Anthroposophic Physicians in Germany/GAÄD
Rudolf Steiner Dear Colleagues, After we had to cancel our large conference last year – prepared jointly by teachers and school and kindergarten doctors – only a few days before its start due to stricter coronavirus travel regulations, we have decided this year to meet again “among ourselves” – the school and kindergarten doctors. We would like to invite you warmly to this in an international context and look forward to seeing you at the Goetheanum in Dornach from 23 to 26 October 2021. We are proceeding on the basis that a smaller, professional group-specific conference is easier to realise at present. That is why we have decided not to catch up this year on the large interdisciplinary conference planned for last year. In addition, we are looking forward to turning our full attention once more to our task as school doctors. This has led to new demands as a result of coronavirus. In many cases it is necessary to mediate and contribute to mutual understanding in the context of the sometimes widely divergent views on coronavirus in the school communities and the way they deal with the corresponding measures. Hence we want to focus our work mainly on the topics connected with the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic on the individual pupils. What consequences do children and young people in the different age groups have to wrestle with in particular? How can we support them and especially the teachers and parents who accompany them? This will be set out in the three main lectures in the morning, broken down by age group. Because we were all able to gather a lot of our own experiences in this respect in the last year, we have deliberately allocated a lot of time to the discussion on this topic, both in small groups and afterwards in the plenary session. The subject of the collaboration between teachers and school and kindergarten doctors is a centrally important accompanying melody here. We would also like to report on a joint working group of teachers and school doctors led by Klaus-Peter Freitag from the German Association of Waldorf Schools. Encouragingly there is currently an intensive exchange of views on how we, teachers and school doctors, can together formulate the profile of the work of school doctors at Waldorf schools – initially for Germany – combined with a clarification of the legal and data protection issues concerning this work. On this, too, we want to offer space for joint discussion.
Early in the morning we start, for everyone who wants to attend, with the Act of Consecration of Man. Claudia McKeen will be happy to give a short introduction on Saturday evening to anyone who is not yet familiar with this special service. Before the lunch break, there is the possibility to move and practise eurythmy therapy, creative speech or Bothmer® gymnastics together, or to play chamber music (important information about this at the end of the programme). In the early afternoon, we will again hold our workshops which, as in previous years, will extend far beyond our immediate conference topic with a diverse and varied range of subjects. In the late afternoon immediately on Saturday, Georg Soldner will brings us up to date on the topics of Covid-19 / long COVID and coronavirus vaccination in children. On Sunday, the focus will be on spiritual community building, and on Monday media teacher Prof Paula Bleckmann will visit us again and look with us at the requirements of age-appropriate media education, requirements which have changed so much as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. During the evenings, there will be a lot of time for exchanging views about our work as school doctors, but also about the task mentioned above of school and kindergarten doctors as mediators in the pandemic. Where did we succeed well in that? Or where did we fail to meet our aspirations? Experiencing art together creates a special connection, especially with the power of music. So we have included a piano concert on Sunday evening with Beethoven’s late piano sonatas, played by Hristo Kasakov. As our annual conference is also an integral part of our module-based specialist training to become a school and kindergarten doctor, we are particularly pleased to welcome newcomers to this field and all colleagues who are interested in school and kindergarten medical topics or in questions of child development in general – as well as those who bring a wealth of experience with them. In doing things together, in encounters and in interchange we can all learn from one another. We would especially like to invite international colleagues who feel that our programme and our form of collaboration appeals to them, so that we can come together in a large group and enrich our schools and kindergartens with new impulses. We will try to organise the required simultaneous translation (so please indicate the language relevant to you when registering). For the preparatory group Michaela Glöckler, Renate Karutz, Ulrike Lorenz, Claudia McKeen, Bettina Pump, Martina Franziska Schmidt, Georg Soldner
