FOR SCHOOLS, Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA): (ESSA Para Las Escuelas) Ensures schools measure student progress using approved tests. Garside Achieves! SBAC 2019 • Reading proficiency 31.7% = increase of 2.1% • District increased 0.8% • Math proficiency 15.3% = decrease of -0.1% • District increased 0.5% • Science proficiency 21.5% = increase of 1.2% • District decreased -1.7%
Garside Achieves! WIDA 2019 Second Language Learners • School wide RACES written response strategy • English Language learners showed increase in passing the writing portion: • 6th increased 25%, 7th increased 13%, 8th increased 16% • Overall increase in number of students exiting EL program and increasing to the higher levels of performance

Garside Chromebooks GOOGLE • All students and staff will use Google Apps for Education to post assignments, communicate with students, and store work. • ELA, math, social studies, and science textbooks are all accessible on the Chromebook. This is how students “take home” their books. • See the world around us! • ALL students will use Edmentum Exact Path English, Reading, and Math on their Chromebooks to improve their reading level and math skills. (Piloting this $80,000 program to help our students grow.)
Garside Chromebooks • Devices will be used by all students as a learning tool with parent/guardian written permission and training. • Always carry devices in a backpack. • The device should never be visible outside of school campus. Turn in your Chromebook forms! Check-out begins Tuesday. No cost to check-out a Chromebook!

Safe & Respectful School Bullying of any kind is not allowed and will result in an RPC and further disciplinary action.
Bullying and Cyberbullying Report of bullying is made Administrator screens & interviews person making the report Contact is made with ALL involved/named parties (conference, phone, parent link, written) Target, Alleged Offenders, Witnesses, Participants, Bystanders, Parents, etc. • Name calling, put downs, verbal taunts are prohibited & Hands-off policy • Discipline will occur (even for off-campus events) that may include RPC, Suspension, Star-On, Behavior School, Expulsion • The reported bully will be removed immediately from the classroom and school setting pending further investigation • Police may be involved and students will be sent to Behavioral School or Expelled for persistent or severe bullying • Counseling and support follow-up for victim and offender • Final report of substantiated or unsubstantiated

Tardy Sweeps & Tardy Lockouts Success begins with punctuality Promotes readiness for learning Students “swept” after the tardy bell will be issued detention Students who have ten, twenty, etc. tardies will be required to have a parent sign the student into school and meet with an administrator.
Family Support is Needed Talk with your students about school and tell your child how wonderful he or she is – everyday! • If your child reports being bullied, please have your child report it to a teacher, counselor or administrator. Call a counselor or administrator if the problem continues. • Talk to your child about making good choices. Check your child’s social media DAILY Limit texting and talking times so your child takes a break from online communication and gets a good night of rest • Ensure your child does not wait around by being too early for school. • Ensure your child quickly walks safely home and does not hang around the school or areas nearby. • If you pick up your child, please make a safe meeting spot. (The front parking lot is closed at the end of the school day.)
