Introduction Background Forgood is a social network with purpose, connecting people based on their interests and their location to opportunities to take action for good in their communities. Forgood was launched in June 2011 as the back-end of a national campaign for Brand South Africa (IMC) called Play Your Part. People were directed to forgood to find ways to play their part in building a better South Africa. Forgood was also the back-end for Mandela Day 2011. The Mandela Day website directed people to forgood to find specific Mandela Day activities. In June 2011, Pick n Pay committed to sponsoring ten R500 gift vouchers per month for a period of 3 months for the forgood rewards programme. Over this period, forgood has increased their membership and many great stories of people connecting for the good of SA have unfolded. To date, forgood has: • Groups / Organisations: 530 • Members: 2180 Still to come In the next few months, forgood will be launching: • The forgood marketplace where people can view and contribute to specific needs or they can offer something to other members of forgood • The forgood knowledge hub where people can access practical information on things they can do to make a difference in their communities. • The forgood brand so that people begin to recognizing forgood as a platform for initiating social change. Feedback Presented in this document are the groups that have been awarded R500 gift vouchers over the last 3 months to go towards to work they are doing in their respective communities. Another 10 vouchers are still available to use for the coming month. Forgood incentivises people’s participation on the forgood social networking site with rewards that matter. The more a member participates, the more points they get. Once they reach a certain level of points, they get to claim their reward. They get to “give” a Pick n Pay voucher to a group or cause on forgood and they “get” a token reward for themselves. The following groups received Pick n Pay vouchers through this process. From Barnswallows Baby Shelter We used the voucher to buy food items and consumables at PnP Clearwater. 2 Days before we received the vouchers, we were overwhelmed with 3 extra kids who were very deprived and neglected and had to be fed all around the clock – this helped us so much – we could not have done without it! Just at the right time! A great big thank you to you and your team – we appreciate the work you are doing, especially for start-up NPOs like ourselves. We do not get any government funding and have to rely on the public for donations like these.
