WEEKLY UPDATE APRIL 11 - APRIL 15, 2022 A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT & PRINCIPAL Palm Sunday recalls an event in the Christian Scripture (The New Testament) of Jesus entering into Jerusalem and being greeted by the people waving palm branches. For Christians, it is a reminder of the welcoming of Jesus into our hearts and of our willingness to follow him. Next week is Holy Week, a sacred time of the year. We honor the last week of Jesus' life on this earth and prepare for Easter. As the Lenten season is about to come to an end, we are reminded next week of the sacrifice Jesus made for all humanity. The greatest focus of the week is the Passion (suffering) and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the events that led up to it. Next Wednesday, we will commemorate this special time through a live reenactment of the Stations of the Cross. This student-led experience will portray the final hours of Jesus Christ’s life on earth. This powerful experience provides spiritual conviction for every Christian and application to our lives. The Stations of the Cross serve as a vivid reminder of the humility of Jesus and his sacrifice in order to provide a path to salvation for us.
The traditional form of the Stations of the Cross is as follows: 1. Jesus is condemned to death. 2. Jesus is given His cross. 3. Jesus falls down for the first time. 4. Jesus meets His mother Mary. 5. Simon of Cyrene is forced to carry the cross. 6. Veronica wipes the blood off of Jesus’ face. 7. Jesus falls down for the second time. 8. Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem. 9. Jesus falls down for the third time. 10. Jesus is stripped of His clothing. 11. Jesus is nailed to the cross – the Crucifixion. 12. Jesus dies on the cross. 13. Jesus’ body is removed from the cross – the Deposition or Lamentation. 14. Jesus’ body is placed in the tomb. We ask that you take a moment this weekend to discuss the meaning of Holy Week as a family as we prepare for this sacred time.
