FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 03/01/2019 WEEKLY “NOTES & NUGGETS” FROM THE PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2019 SITE VISITS; GIL BRANDT ANNOUNCES HIS PRESENTER; JOHN STALLWORTH INSPIRES YOUTH; BAKER MAYFIELD & NICK CHUBB ARTIFACTS NOW ON DISPLAY; FROM THE ARCHIVES: HALL OF FAMERS BY COLLEGE CANTON, OHIO – The following is a sampling of events, happenings and notes that highlight how the Pro Football Hall of Fame serves its important mission to “Honor the Heroes of the Game, Preserve its History, Promote its Values & Celebrate Excellence EVERYWHERE!” CLASS OF 2019 SITE VISITS This week, Class of 2019 Enshrinee CHAMP BAILEY and PAT BOWLEN’s daughter Annabel Bowlen visited Canton in preparation for the Aug. 3 Enshrinement Ceremony at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. They toured the Hall and met with the Hall of Fame team to plan for the upcoming 2019 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls. Later in the week, GIL BRANDT’s wife and representatives from TONY GONZALEZ came to Canton to prepare for the August celebration. Hall of Famers TY LAW, ED REED and JOHNNY ROBINSON will visit next week. JOHN STALLWORTH INSPIRES YOUTH THROUGH HEART OF A HALL OF FAMER The Heart of a Hall of Famer series, powered by Extreme Networks, provides students the opportunity to learn first-hand what it took beyond athletic ability for legendary Heroes of the Game to achieve success on and off the field. The program focuses on the Hall of Fame’s values of commitment, integrity, courage, respect and excellence.
On Tuesday, JOHN STALLWORTH took part in a Heart of a Hall of Famer program from Huntsville (Alabama) High School. Students from Bridges Elementary School in Gilbert, Arizona also tuned into the program that was made available via Facebook Live. JOHN STALLWORTH INSPIRES STUDENTS “Learn to appreciate the value of other people in your lives. Learn to appreciate what your mom and dad do for you every day. Learn to appreciate the value of having good, solid, strong relationships with family and friends. Learn to treasure that.” GIL BRANDT ANNOUNCES HIS PRESENTER Class of 2019 Enshrinee GIL BRANDT announced fellow Hall of Famer JERRY JONES would serve as his presenter. Brandt served as the Dallas Cowboys’ Vice President of Player Personnel from 1960 to 1989. Interestingly, Jones fired Brandt shortly after purchasing the Cowboys. Brandt’s tweet (pictured) announcing his Presenter links to an article written by Andy Fenelon of NFL.com explaining his decision. KEVIN MAWAE is the only other member of the Class of 2019 to reveal his presenter. Kevin’s wife Tracy Mawae will serve as presenter for his upcoming Enshrinement. BAKER MAYFIELD & NICK CHUBB ARTIFACTS NOW ON DISPLAY Last week, Cleveland Browns General Manager John Dorsey and Head Coach Freddie Kitchens were at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Dorsey and Kitchens presented the Hall’s President & CEO David Baker and Chairman of the Board Randy Hunt with a few artifacts to add to the Hall’s Collection where they will be preserved for future generations to see. The artifacts included the jersey and pants worn by Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield during his first career NFL start on Sept. 30, 2018 against the Oakland
Raiders as well as the jersey worn by running back Nick Chubb on Nov. 11, 2018 when he scored on a 92-yard run in the third quarter against the Atlanta Falcons. The play is the longest rushing touchdown in Browns’ history and the second-longest touchdown run by a rookie in NFL history. FROM THE RALPH WILSON, JR. Notre Dame has the most Hall of Famers with 13, Southern California has 12 and Ohio State has 10.
