History Over the course of this topic, the children will learn about what life was like for a Victorian child and how different their lives are today. They will time order significant events that happened during the Victorian Era. Children will experience life in a work house and produce writing describing their experience. Design Technology Children will have the opportunity to design, stitch and model their own Punch and Judy puppet, based on traditional designs. They will choose a design brief, use skills from Year 4 and Year 5 to stitch their materials together and finally use clay, mod roc or salt dough to sculpt their puppet’s head.
Physical Education This half term’s PE will be focussed on striking and fielding. During the Victorian times a sport which was played was an very early form of tennis and cricket. Using rackets/bats and balls children will develop their striking, fielding, attacking and defending skills. Religious Education Children will be able to compare and contrast two nativity recounts from Matthew and Luke. They will critically analyse both recounts and suggest reasons for the differences between the two accounts.

Relationships and Health Education Children will continue to learn about the different feelings and emotions that they can experience, particularly linked with the transition to secondary school. Children will learn the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships. French Children will continue to develop their French vocabulary and having conversations with with others.
Bespoke Book Reading This half term’s Reading regularly at school and home is essential to children’s language Bespoke Book is The Secret Diary of Jane development. In school, children will use Reading Plus at least three times per week and as a result, they will be exposed to a vast range of texts across a vast range of genres. Whilst they will have regular reading sessions in school, children will also benefit further by sharing and discussing texts at home. English Children will examine the literary features and structures of comic strips, fact files, recipes and essays. By the end of the half term, children will have written in each of these styles of writing with links to our Victorian topic, carefully choosing appropriate vocabulary, sentence structures and literary devices. Spelling at Home In school, your children will focus on spelling rules and applying this within their writing. At home, children would benefit from regular practise of Y6 common exception words, which can be found in their Reading Diary.
Maths Children will continue developing their knowledge of number, statistics, geometry and measure. They will solve problems, reason and investigate how they can apply their knowledge to a variety of contexts including topic-based activities and everyday life. Maths at Home In order to support your child with their learning, it would be helpful if you could: • Ask them multiplication table questions (just one table a night) e.g. focus on the 8x table on Monday and as questions such as 8 x 3 and 24 divided by 8 • Discuss the time during the day using both digital and analogue clocks • Involve them when cooking, asking them to weigh ingredients and discussing the measurements
Reading Diaries should be in school every day. Please try to listen to your child at least three time per week and discuss themes, events and characters. Please sign your child’s reading diary.
