Skyler James Queen Candidate My name is Skyler James and I am running for your 2021 DCYF Queen. Why should I be your queen you might be asking yourself. Well all together I’m kind of like a cake and everyone likes cake right? You’re probably thinking what is this girl talking about she’s definitely not a cake. Well let me explain it to you. To start out with we have the flour which we all know is one of the biggest ingredients and my flour is my family. My family makes up a huge part of my life and I would definitely not be myself if I didn’t have the strong support system that is my family. We recently had a big death in my family with my dad passing away. My mom, sisters and I were with each other for every step of the way and I couldn’t have made it through that without them. Next is the butter which in my case is definitely school. Butter is the make or break of the cake which is what school is to me. I’ve always been a good student and prioritized my education whether I wanted to or not. Milk is for sure the livestock aspect of my life. I’ve always personally loved milk my entire life along with livestock animals and shows. I grew up riding arabian horses my entire life and horses for sure have my heart. I now show my mini rex rabbits with my FFA show team and I have been for 4 years now. I will be proceeding to show goats next year and the years following. My eggs is varsity choir. It’s a for sure needed ingredient just as choir is for me. I started singing in my schools choir when I was in 3rd grade and I fell in love with it. I got accepted into North Texas Children's choir when I was in 5th grade and for the next two years I was performing at the Dallas Symphony Hall. Sadly I grew out of that choir but I grew onto more opportunities like being in the varsity choir at Byron Nelson High School as a freshman. My friends represent the sugar and salt so well. There will always be sweet and salty parts of friendships but at the end of the day it always comes back to those super sweet and special moments if you have the right people in your life. No matter what I support and love my friends whether we are in those sweet or salty moments. AVID is my baking powder in so many ways. We all know that we only use a little bit of baking powder in the batter mix and AVID is only a little part of my life but both make a huge difference. We also don’t fully know what the baking powder is supposed to be doing just like AVID. I know it’s a college prep class but at the same time I won’t fully comprehend and understand that until I get to college. Last but not least my vanilla extract is my dad. Vanilla extract puts the perfect topping on the cake to make it sweet and taste amazing. My dad motivates me everyday to make him proud and I know every time I accomplish something he is always looking down on me smiling and making my life sweet again. He is my vanilla extract. Overall there is so much that goes into every person just like there is so much that goes into each cake. You’ll never know what the person is like or how the cake tastes from the outside but once you know the ingredients then you know the person. You now know the ingredients that make up your next DCYF Queen…. Skyler James
Morgan Mathney, Argyle 4-H Princess Candidate My name is Morgan Mathney and I am in 5th grade at Hawk Elementary.
