Suzanne Barton ECU Producing/Scriptwriting graduate “Deciding to abandon cushy corporate life and pursue something more creative at the Screen Academy in 2010 was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The year is dynamic, hectic, challenging, inspiring and absolutely full of laughter. I came out of it with a Masters in producing and writing, but the rewards are so much more than the piece of paper. Students walk away with a stellar showreel, industry know-how, a wealth of contacts and perhaps some of life’s most enduring friendships. Screen Academy is like... creative boot camp. And it can really open doors.” Caitlan O’Connor ECU Editing/Directing graduate After completing her undergraduate degree, Caitlan, wanting to expand her knowledge base, applied for the Master of Professional Communications at the WA Screen Academy under a directing major. The course offered her the option to develop further skills in the areas of producing and editing. Soon after finishing her year at the WA Screen Academy she obtained full time employment as a junior editor. Since then she has edited a number of TVCs, web content, short films, and more recently has completed music videos shot by some of Australia’s top DOPs. She has also worked with ex-WA Screen Academy students who have also found professional employment in the advertising industry. Caitlan considers the WA Screen Academy to be the best academic decision she has made and values her time there highly. Ben Mizzi ECU Directing/Cinematography graduate “Screen Academy was an intense yet rewarding year of education into the film industry. As a Director and Director of Photography I was able to get involved in all six of the WAAPA films, gaining significant experience and materials for my showreel. While the workload is tough, it’s a baptism by fire introduction to the film industry and upon the end of the year, there is a definite feeling of achievement, personal satisfaction and the belief that I am ready and able to advance my career in the film industry. I’d recommend the course to anyone who is willing to test their mettle for a future in screen.”
