MESSAGE FROM THE RACE DIRECTOR Dear athletes, Welcome to the second edition of IRONMAN Hamburg! We are incredibly proud to have launched the best race in Europe last year with the first edition. The expectations are correspondingly high and we have given everything to fulfill them, better yet: to surpass them. The race starts at the Jungfernstieg. One thing is for sure - there will once again be a spectacular swimming in the Binnenalster and Außenalster that creates sensational images. The newly designed bike course, which takes all athletes to the Vier- and Marschlande and takes place exclusively on Hamburg soil, promises to achieve a personal best time through its flat profile. Hamburg's most beautiful running area awaits you with thousands of spectators and lots of great views over the inland waters of the harbor metropolis. With a total of four rounds it goes three times over the town hall market. Here the loud atmosphere that awaits you for the later finish can already be enjoyed. Without volunteers you can not manage such a big event. Therefore, we would like to thank all our volunteers. Furthermore, big thanks you to the Active City Hamburg. Last but not least - thanks to our sponsors, who actively support us in offering our athletes the best possible event again. The IRONMAN team is looking forward to Hamburg and to you, to enjoy the unique, hanseatic IRONMAN feeling together. We wish you a successful race! Konrad Straube & Björn Steinmetz Racedirector IRONMAN Hamburg & Managing Director IRONMAN Germany GmbH 2

RACE DAY INFORMATION Weather on Race Day Sunrise on the 29th of July is at 05:55am, sunset at 20:54pm. The average daytime temperature in July is 20°- 25°C. We will monitor the weather on race day. We reserve the right to cancel, modify or shorten any portion of the event for safety considerations. Transition Area, Pre-race routine • The Transition Area opens on Race Day at 05:00am and will be closed at 06:30am. The organizer accepts no responsibility for athletes’ air-pumps. • The white pre race bag contains clothing and personal items that will be needed after the race. This white bag has to be dropped by leaving transition to the swim start before the race and will await its owner in the Athletes Garden near the Finish Line. ROLLING SWIM START With the publication of the new bike course for the IRONMAN Hamburg 2018, the course profile changed accordingly from the previous year. So the new bike course is much flatter than last year. In order to avoid the potential problem of "slipstreaming", we, the organizer, have thought about the measures we can take to ensure a fair race. As a result we will extend the Rolling Swim Start of the IRONMAN Hamburg by 10 minutes to a total of 30 minutes. In addition, the largest time interval intervals are carried out in the middle and high-frequency starting blocks. This measure will ensure a stretched racing field. Furthermore, we ask of course all athletes for fair behavior. All cut-off times remain unaffected by the adjustment. Athletes will line up according to their realistic predicted swim time and every five seconds, we will send out five athletes. It will take approximately 30 minutes to get the entire field across the swim start line. PLEASE BE HONEST TO YOURSELF AND LINE UP ACCORDING TO YOUR REALISTIC EXPECTED SWIM TIME! This is the only way to guarantee a smooth and secure flow ensuring equal opportunities for all athletes! For more information please visit ironman.com Swim, Start • Before the swim start, the Transition Area is opened from 05:00 am until 06:30am. • Warmup: It is allowed to do the warmup swim from 05:45 until 06:15am. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION An open-water swim in a triathlon is substantially different from swimming in a pool. This is why it is important that you arrive on race day healthy, fit and prepared. On our homepage we created a Swim Smart Top 10 Checklist for you to support you with your race preparations. IRONMAN does not allow athletes to transfer his or her registration to another person. This will result in a disqualification and potential suspension of future IRONMAN events. If an athlete has to stop the race and quit, he has to inform a referee, officials or stop by the information point at the Transition Area! Athlete – Spectator: The police must be called! You have to stay until the police has arrived! Athlete – Athlete: Communicate with each other, whether both of you can continue. If not, both athletes have to stay until the police arrives. FINISHER PIX – NEVER FORGET YOUR RACE! Your race is in safe hands! FinisherPix will be at the IRONMAN Hamburg to cover your race. 24 – 48 hours after the end of the race your personal race photos will be available here: http://www.finisherpix.com/e/1817 34
