ROSSLAND MINERS’ HALL FACILITIES The MINERS’ HALL is a historical building in a central location downtown Rossland. This facility includes various rentable spaces to accommodate all types of events including weddings, funerals, live performances, fundraisers, meetings, fitness classes, etc. The PERFORMANCE HALL is a 2082 square foot room, including a warming kitchen and stage area with an occupancy load of 198 (156 with tables and chairs). The hall dimensions are 38'4" x 54'4" and the stage dimensions are 17'9" x 27'3". Recommended uses of the Performance Hall include live bands and performances, fundraisers, weddings, funerals. Users can choose to also rent access to the ATTIC GREEN ROOM when renting the Performance Hall space. This 432-square foot room with two bathrooms, one shower, kitchenette, lockers, mirrors, couch and two lounge chairs is accessed via stairs off the stage in the Main Hall. The Attic Green Room is ideal for groups using the Main Hall for plays, CARMEN ADAMS musical acts, etc where actors/musicians require a room to prepare and change. The LILY MAY ROOM is a 17' x 42' (714-square-foot), newly renovated post-and-beam-style meeting/social room. The Lily May Room has occupancy load of 75 and is ideal for baby showers, small gatherings, book clubs, etc. The Lily May Room includes the Attic Lounge, a 340-square-foot entrance room with coat rack, kitchenette (55 square feet) and bathroom. HOW TO REGISTER REGISTRATION Go to: rossland.ca/recreation Need help registering? Call 250-362-2327 or email recreation@rossland.ca and set up a time to get a registration tutorial at City Hall or over the phone. Log in or create an account if you have never registered for any programs with the City of Rossland. Ensure all family members are on account. If a course interests you, please register early. Many programs end up cancelling for lack of ROSSLAND RECREATION/LESLEY CHISHOLM registration, only to have folks call in the day it’s to start. Please try to register a minimum of five days before a course is scheduled to start, to ensure it runs. This gives the instructor time to prepare and allows the Recreation Department to organize all the details; including waivers, registration information, facility preparation and purchasing supplies. REGISTRATION INFORMATION Pre-registration is necessary for all programs, unless otherwise stated. Some classes fill quickly. If the class you want is full, please ask to be placed on the waitlist. You will be contacted if space becomes available or if we add an additional class. If a class does not have the minimum number of participants registered, three days prior to the beginning of the class, the class will be cancelled. Please register early to avoid disappointment. SUMMER CAMP SCHEDULE: RECREATION PROGRAMS SCHEDULE Week 1: July 2 - 5 TIME TRAVEL ADVENTURE Registration Deadline: June 28 Ahoy Maties! Come join for some more Pirate-ness at the Rossland Pool this summer. Walk the plank and build your own pirate ships to race on the last day. In the afternoon, teams will go on a dinosaur dig, complete paleo crafts and volcano stones at the museum. Week 2: July 8 - 12 SPORTS: AMAZING RACE! Registration Deadline: July 5 Spend the week trying out different sport activities including, baseball, soccer, and floor hockey. Kids get to play games and have fun trying different activities that help build the fundamental movements of running, jumping, kicking, throwing and balancing, giving them the skills to participate in many sports. In the afternoon form two teams, and complete endless challenges over the five days. Week 3: July 15 - 19 WILD AT ART Registration Deadline: July 12 Join Shelley Painter at Cabine for nature inspired art and crafting in the morning. Spend the afternoon learning creative art skills and enjoying nature. Week 4: July 22 - 26 ROSS WORTS: SCIENCE Registration Deadline: July 19 Magic can be fun, especially when its combined with swimming and our awesome magicians at the pool in the morning. Continue the adventure in the afternoon with herbology, potions, astronomy and mystery at the museum. Week 5: July 29 – Aug 2 EXTREME EARTH Registration Deadline: July 26 Spend three mornings rock climbing at the Flux bouldering facility and in the afternoon explore the great ice age, exploding volcanoes, tsunamis, earthquakes and tornadoes at the museum. Week 6: Aug 6 - 9 PIONEER SURVIVOR Registration Deadline: August 2 Spend the morning trying different activities that help build movement skills of running, jumping, kicking, throwing and balancing, including a visit to Flux Climbing Gym. In the afternoon, teams will complete challenges worthy of the pioneers, starting a fire, weaving yarn, making stilts and wild crafting at the museum. Week 7: Aug 12 - 16 SUPERHERO Registration Deadline: August 9 Spend the morning in the pool with water, raft and tight rope challenges with a superhero twist. Spend the afternoon creating a comic strip and stop motion animation, a super hero adventure course and make a super hero mask at the museum. Week 8: Aug 19 - 23 ROSS WORTS: MUGGLE ARTS Registration Deadline: August 16 Spend the morning creating art with Shelley Painter at Cabine that Potter would be proud of. In the afternoon, make muggle arts and crafts at the museum that only wizards would love. Week 9: Aug 26 - 29 STEM AND SPORTS Registration Deadline: August 23 Finish off the summer with a morning of sports activities and an afternoon of STEM and coding. SWIM LESSONS AQUATIC PARENT AND TOT (4 MONTHS – 3 YEARS) Orientation to water for babies and parents. The goals are to help babies experience buoyancy and movement through songs and play in the water. Depending on age and comfort, participants will learn how to kick with an object, perform basic floats and glides and submerge. PRESCHOOL AGE (3 – 5 YEARS) Sea Otter Using games and activities, swimmers learn to open their eyes under water and practice floats and glides with assistance. Salamander Swimmers learn to swim 2 meters, and practice floats and glides unassisted. Sunfish Swimmers learn to swim 5 meters, increase their front and back glide with kick, develop their rollover glide. Safety skills include deep-water skills and use of a PFD Crocodile Swimmers learn to swim 5 meters on their front and back. Safety skills include jumping into deep- water and performing surface support for 10 seconds. Whale Swimmers perform a front and back swim for 10 meters. Safety skills include identifying safe swimming areas, swimming 5 meters, surface support for 20 seconds. SCHOOL AGE (5 – 12 YEARS) Level 1 Swimmers receive orientation to water and pool area and work on floats, glides and kicks. Endurance is built by working on the 5m swim. Level 2 Work on front swim (5m) and learn about deep-water activities and PFD. 10m flutter kick and 10m distance swim. Endurance is built on a 150m swim. Level 8 Introduction to Breast stroke and feet-first surface dives. Learn about the dangers of open water, hypothermia, & rescue breathing. Use eggbeater skill for 3 minutes. Endurance is built on a 300m swim. Level 9 Refines the front crawl, back crawl, elementary back stroke, and breast stroke. Head first surface dives. Endurance is built on a 400 m swim. Level 10 Final assessment of strokes. Learn about sun safety, rescue of others from ice and surface dives. ADVANCED LIFESAVING AND FIRST AID COURSES AQUATIC Start your career in Aquatics at the Rossland Pool this summer! Bronze Star The Bronze Star is designed for Youth. This course introduces the lifesaving principles in the four components of water rescue education: Judgement, knowledge, skill and fitness. Day: Monday and Tuesday Time: 11 am - 5 pm Date: July 8 and 9 Cost: $150 Location: Rossland Pool Bronze Medallion / Bronze Cross The Bronze Combo Camp is designed ROSSLAND RECREATION for Youth to take both the Medallion and Cross at the same time. The Medallion course introduces the lifesaving principles in the four components of water rescue education: Judgement, knowledge, skill and fitness. The Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more training and is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs, Standard First Aid and CPR C Standard First Aid and including National Lifeguard (NL) and Standard First Aid (SFA) is the most CPR C Recertification Instructor Certifications. INDIVIDUALS The following programs are available for individuals to access sport and recreation programs if they are unable to afford the fees associated with them. Rossland Recreation Bursary Program We are in the process of updating our bursary program to allow for individuals of any age to apply for assistance. The RRB program allows for up to $100 per person per year with youth as the priority and adults having access to the program as long as the balance in the account is maintained above $1000. If you or someone you know is able to donate to this fund, we are accepting donations to try and ensure there are enough funds to cover as many people as possible. Persons enrolled in these recreational and competitive programs must be a club, team or non-profit group made up of children to the age of 18 years.
